Town of Beaconsfield : Get a permit to install a heat pump or air conditioning unit

Dear Residents of the Town of Beaconsfield,

We are delighted to serve you at AirGreen, your trusted partner for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions. As part of our commitment to you, we wish to provide you with detailed and accurate information regarding the installation of heat pumps in your beautiful municipality.

Key Information on Heat Pump Installation in Beaconsfield:

  • No Permit Required: The good news is that you no longer need to obtain a permit to install a heat pump in Beaconsfield.

  • Noise Level Standards: All newly installed heat pumps must operate at a noise level not exceeding 45 dBa (equivalent to a whisper), measured at a height of 1.0 m at the boundary of your property.

  • Installation Location: Heat pumps are allowed to be installed only in the backyard and side yards of your property. For corner lots, installation is permitted in the front yard facing the side street or side yard.

  • Distance from Neighboring Properties: Although there are no specific requirements, it is strongly recommended to position your heat pump as far away as possible from neighboring properties to minimize noise disturbances.

  • Mandatory Protective Screen: Your heat pump must be concealed from street view and adjacent properties with a protective screen.

  • Prohibited Materials for Protective Screens: Certain materials are prohibited for the construction of protective screens, including asbestos-cement panels or shingles, plywood, fiberboard and sheet metal panels, aluminum or steel siding (unless it mimics decline), asphalted, felted, tarred paper, any material giving an unfinished appearance, galvanized sheet metal, concrete blocks, and round wood (treated or not). Wood siding is allowed only if it is weather-treated.

Your Responsibility:

It is your responsibility as a resident to comply with all rules and regulations in force. We encourage you to obtain agreement from your neighbors when necessary and to ensure that your installation complies with the regulations. Although we at AirGreen are here to guide and assist you throughout the process, the ultimate responsibility for obtaining permits and ensuring compliance rests with you, unless otherwise stipulated in our contract.
