It combines two elements of different outputs, one of 3 kW and the other of 4.5 kW. The aquastats bring them on in stages according to demand, and an indicator light per element shows what is heating. In total, the boiler delivers 25,590 BTU/h at 240 V, in a wall-mounted cabinet that holds only 1 US gal of water.

Like every Mini BTH, it heats the water of radiant floors, radiators and hydronic baseboards, and Thermo 2000 also designs it as backup for a heat pump, a geothermal or a solar system. It runs quietly and with no GHG emissions, according to the manufacturer.

A typical South Shore bungalow

Take a bungalow on the South Shore or in Longueuil with a finished basement: radiant floor downstairs, hydronic baseboards upstairs, and an old electric boiler taking up space near the panel. The Mini BTH 7.5 mounts on the wall, frees the floor and needs only a 40 A breaker with Cu 8 or Al 6 wire, according to Thermo 2000. In mild weather, demand stays low and one stage may be enough; in deep cold, the second one comes on.

What to know before installing

If your building is supplied at 208 V, output drops to 5.6 kW (27.2 A), which may tip the choice toward a larger size. The Mini BTH has no outdoor sensor: the water temperature is set on the aquastats, from 50 °F to 190 °F (10 °C to 90 °C). The circulator and expansion tank are not supplied. The manufacturer publishes a flow of 5.1 US gpm at a 10 °F difference, or 2.5 US gpm at 20 °F, with negligible pressure drop, which guides the choice of circulator. The maximum working pressure is 30 psi (207 kPa), and two high temperature limits protect the appliance, at 208 °F (98 °C) automatic and 227 °F (108 °C) manual.

AirGreen handles the installation

After a free on-site estimate, you receive a written quote that specifies the chosen size, the circulator and the expansion tank. Our technicians remove the old electric boiler, mount the Mini BTH on the wall, connect it to the circuit through its 3/4 in NPT connections, install the supplied 30 psi relief valve and temperature and pressure gauge, make the electrical and thermostat connections, then fill, purge and check each zone with you.

AirGreen is a family business established in Montreal for more than fifteen years, holding RBQ licence 5645-9605-01 in ventilation, refrigeration and electrical work.
