It is the most compact branch fitting: where a wye would need length, the tee comes straight out the side.

The branch takeoff for tight spaces

In a ceiling cavity, between two joists or along a foundation wall, there is often no room for an angled fitting. The tee lets you feed an outlet very close to the duct, or run an air exchanger branch to a room without a detour. It is also used to prepare for a future connection: its outlet is closed with a round cap until the day the branch is installed.

Six diameters

Available in 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12 in, based on the nominal diameter of the duct being connected.

Tee or wye: how to choose

Tee fitting: the shortest, for narrow spaces and outlets close together.

Wye fitting: the branch comes off at an angle and the air turns more gently; the better choice when space allows, especially for joining two exhaust runs.

Installation

Screw all three joints and seal them with aluminum tape or mastic.
