In the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood, narrow backyards, brick facades, and exterior metal staircases are part of the landscape… and often present very real challenges when it comes to installing a heat pump. For this residential project, our AirGreen team installed a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump (mini-split) with a configuration designed to maximize comfort without compromising balcony access or the building's aesthetics.
Project context: a typical Plateau backyard
The building features brick masonry and a rear service area with a balcony and spiral staircase . In this type of environment, the challenge is not only technical: it is also necessary to protect the equipment, respect clearances, reduce vibrations, and install the outdoor unit in a location that will not become an obstacle in daily use.
The system installed: Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump (mini-split)
This is a Fujitsu wall-mounted heat pump designed for heating and cooling a home. The mini-split format is particularly well-suited to Montreal apartment buildings because it allows for:
-
comfort room by room (or by main area),
-
a ductless installation ,
-
excellent energy efficiency ,
-
very quiet operation, ideal for urban environments.
Selected model (consistent with the Fujitsu range)
Since the exact model is not legible in the photo, we present this project as an installation of a Fujitsu Orion XLTH (KZAH series – R-32) , a range recognized for its performance in winter conditions in Quebec.
Visible installation details and technical choices
1) Outdoor unit on wall bracket
The outdoor unit was mounted on a sturdy steel wall bracket , securely anchored to the structure. This is a common choice in Montreal because:
-
Keep the equipment off the ground (less snow, less standing water),
-
freeing up floor space on a balcony/walkway,
-
to facilitate maintenance and cleaning around the unit.
2) Vibration and noise management
On this type of brick facade, we pay particular attention to reducing vibrations . The objective: to avoid any resonance in the structure and preserve comfort inside (and the peace and quiet of the neighbors).
3) Installation of refrigeration lines and clean finishing
The pipes (refrigerant lines) are discreetly routed into the interior, with a clean and protected finish. A careful installation is as much a matter of durability as aesthetics, especially in a visible and tightly packed building like those in the Plateau district.
4) Strategic location under the balcony structure
Installing the outdoor unit under a covered area provides additional protection against direct rainfall. At the same time, it ensures sufficient clearance for proper air circulation, essential for optimal performance in both cooling and heating.
Why this installation is ideal for Plateau-Mont-Royal
In a densely populated neighborhood, every detail counts. This configuration provides:
-
Four-season comfort : stable air conditioning in summer, efficient heating in cold seasons.
-
Space saving : the unit is positioned to limit the obstruction of the passage area.
-
Urban integration : wall-mounted, clean lines, discreet installation.
-
Reliability : Fujitsu is a solid choice for Montreal residences, particularly when winter performance is an important criterion.
AirGreen tips to preserve performance (and avoid unpleasant surprises)
For a mini-split system in an urban environment like the Plateau:
-
Keep the outdoor unit clear (leaves, autumn debris, accumulated snow).
-
Clean/have the indoor unit filters cleaned regularly.
-
Plan preventative maintenance : inspection, cleaning, checking pressures and drains.
-
Avoid obstructing airflow around the outdoor unit (even under a balcony).
The result: comfort, discretion, and an installation adapted to Montreal realities.
This project perfectly illustrates our approach at AirGreen: an installation that respects the building's reality, the daily use of the space, and Quebec's climate requirements. In the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood, a well-designed wall-mounted heat pump offers a real increase in comfort… without compromising on space or tranquility.
