In 2026, the main grant for a heat pump is Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert: $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of heating at -8 °C for an ENERGY STAR cold-climate model, $50 for a standard ENERGY STAR model, up to 100% of the cost before taxes. The amount depends on the heat delivered at -8 °C, not on the price of the machine.

How it works. A heat pump does not make heat: it moves it. Even at -20 °C, the air holds heat: the refrigerant picks it up outside and releases it inside. Example from a product page: the FUJITSU CENTAURI R32 1.5-ton delivers 2.91 times more heat than the electricity it uses at -8 °C (COP 2.91).
The question that matters in Québec. Pick a brand, then a temperature: the best cold-climate wall units from each brand in our catalogue, with certified figures. Capacity drops as the temperature falls, but it does not drop to zero.
