How often should an air exchanger be cleaned?

Clean or replace the filters every 3 months, more often with pets, renovations, a wood stove or allergies. The core, fan, pan and drain need cleaning at least once a year, ideally in the fall (CAA-Québec).

Should air ducts be cleaned on a fixed schedule?

No. CAA-Québec sets no fixed interval: it depends on occupants, pets, smoke and recent renovations. The inspection is how we find out whether your ducts need it.

Does my heat pump need yearly maintenance?

Natural Resources Canada recommends a yearly check by a qualified contractor. In spring, for cooling: cleaning the evaporator and condenser coils, checking the refrigerant level, cleaning and adjusting the blower.

Does cleaning replace yearly maintenance?

It is part of it. The check Natural Resources Canada recommends also covers thermostat settings, electrical connections, lubrication and testing the controls at start-up and shut-down.

Water is dripping from my wall unit. What should I do?

It is often a blocked condensate drain or pan. Natural Resources Canada notes that a blocked drain can cause water damage and change the home’s humidity. Turn the unit off and call us: drain unclogging can be added to the cleaning.

What products do you use?

Products free of harsh chemicals, with no heavy artificial fragrances or toxic residue, and a high-power vacuum that removes dirt instead of moving it around.

How often should a commercial kitchen hood be cleaned?

NFPA 96 sets inspections by cooking volume: monthly for solid fuel, quarterly for high volume (24 h, charbroiling, wok), semi-annually for moderate volume, yearly for low volume.
