Installation of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

In Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, in the heart of Montreal's typical brick plexes, we were commissioned to modernize the comfort of an apartment with a Gree wall-mounted heat pump . The client's objective: to enjoy a high-performance, quiet heating and cooling system adapted to the realities of Montreal winters, without compromising the aesthetics of the facade or the flow of traffic in the basement entrance.

Context: a sunken basement entrance, typical of Montreal

The building is a residential structure with a brick facade and a lower basement entrance . Access is via an exterior concrete staircase with a metal railing. This type of configuration, very common in Rosemont, presents several challenges for the installation of a heat pump:

  • limited space in the stairwell;

  • need to maintain a clear passage for the basement door;

  • risks of snow and ice accumulation in winter;

  • Noise needs to be controlled in a dense urban environment.

Our mandate was therefore to find an optimal location for the outdoor unit, while respecting the clearances necessary for the proper functioning of the heat pump and the client's comfort requirements.

Choosing a high-efficiency Gree wall-mounted heat pump

For this project, we recommended and installed a Gree high-efficiency wall-mounted heat pump with a capacity of approximately 12,000 BTU, perfectly sized for the area to be cooled and heated.

The advantages of this solution:

  • Inverter technology allowing continuous adaptation of power according to the actual needs of the dwelling;

  • Heating performance in cold weather , ideal for Montreal's climate;

  • Quiet operation , much appreciated in an urban environment where outdoor units are often located near living areas;

  • Energy efficiency that reduces electricity bills compared to traditional electrical systems.

By combining air conditioning in the summer and highly efficient supplementary heating in the winter, the Gree wall-mounted heat pump becomes the heart of 4-season comfort in the home.

Strategic positioning of the outdoor unit

The Gree outdoor unit was installed on a concrete slab in the basement stairwell , slightly raised above ground level. This choice was not arbitrary:

  • The raised section helps protect the unit against the accumulation of snow and water during thaws.

  • The location, set back from the street, reduces the noise perceived outside while preserving calm inside.

  • Access for maintenance remains simple and safe, without hindering the opening of the basement door.

We ensured adequate clearance around the fan to guarantee good air circulation in both cooling and heating modes. Even in a confined space, the heat pump has sufficient free air volume to operate efficiently without excessive recirculation.

Aesthetic management and protection of refrigeration connections

A key aspect of this installation is the care taken in routing the refrigeration lines (refrigerant, condensate, and wiring). Rather than leaving the pipes exposed, we have:

  • runs the pipes along the brick wall ;

  • used a two-tone decorative hood (brownish horizontal section at the brick level, grey vertical section towards the bottom) which harmonizes with the facade and the plastered part;

  • created a clean and neat angle at the corner of the wall for a discreet and uniform result.

This integration work allows:

  • to protect the connections against UV rays, shocks and weathering;

  • to preserve the aesthetics of the facade , an important criterion for owners concerned about the value of their building.

The condensate drain passage was also designed to prevent water from running down the steps and to limit ice formation in winter.

Four-season comfort for Rosemont accommodation

Thanks to this Gree wall-mounted heat pump, the customer now benefits from:

  • of rapid and even air conditioning during summer heat waves;

  • efficient heating between mid-seasons, greatly reducing dependence on conventional electrical systems;

  • better humidity control , contributing to healthier indoor air;

  • with quiet operation, both indoors and outdoors, ideal for a densely built residential area.

The indoor unit, strategically installed in the main living area, efficiently circulates the air and distributes comfort to other rooms, while offering a discreet design that blends well with the decor.

An installation designed to last

As with all our installations, we have applied AirGreen's best practices:

  • solid anchoring and leveling of the outdoor unit;

  • checking the emptiness of the refrigeration circuit and charging the refrigerant in accordance with Gree specifications ;

  • comprehensive tests in heating and air conditioning modes;

  • detailed explanations to the customer on the use of the remote control, the available modes and the recommended temperatures.

We also recommended regular maintenance : cleaning the indoor filters a few times per season, periodic inspection of the outdoor unit and snow removal, in order to preserve the performance and longevity of the system.
