Installation of a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump on a balcony in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie (Montreal)

In Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, brick buildings with stacked balconies and metal structures often present very real constraints for heat pump installation. At AirGreen, we recently completed the installation of aSharp wall-mounted heat pump , a typical Montreal project: limited space, high-rise access, condominium requirements, and the need for a reliable system for both heating and cooling.

Type of system installed: wall-mounted mini-split (outdoor unit + indoor unit)

From the visible elements, it is clearly a wall-mounted heat pump (mini-split) : a compact outdoor unit connected by insulated refrigerant lines to the inside, to supply a wall head (indoor unit) in the dwelling.

This format is one of the most popular in Montreal because it allows:

  • to effectively air-condition in the summer (even during heat waves),

  • to heat in mid-season and winter with very good efficiency

  • to avoid major ductwork work (perfect for plexes, condos and co-ownerships).

Brand: Sharp | Model: Sharp ZU1 (consistent with the installation)

Since the brand is provided manually, we are referring to a Sharp heat pump. For this type of residential setup, the most suitable choice is a Sharp ZU1 (R-32 wall-mounted model), known for its performance and stable operation in Quebec conditions.

Prominent installation details observable

This installation presents several important technical features, typical of Montreal balconies:

1) Outdoor unit fixed high on a wall bracket

The unit is installed on a wall bracket under a balcony/awning. It's an excellent choice in Rosemont when you want to:

  • clear the ground (snow, ice, maintenance),

  • protect the equipment from buildup,

  • to respect certain restrictions on balcony access.

We pay particular attention to clearances (device breathing, maintenance, air circulation) in order to avoid any recirculation of cold/hot air which would cause a drop in efficiency.

2) Clean and protected connection passage

We see a sheath and insulation on the connections, with mechanical protection (and taping). The objective is twofold:

  • reduce heat loss (continuous insulation),

  • protect the pipes against moisture, abrasion and impacts.

At AirGreen, we always aim for a clean, solid and durable path — particularly on facades and balconies, where exposure to the elements is constant.

3) Safe electricity and simplified service

A DiversiTech service box is visible nearby. This detail is important: an accessible disconnect switch facilitates maintenance and diagnostics, and ensures compliance with good safety practices.

4) Adaptation to climate: vibrations, water, frost and corrosion

In Montreal, an outdoor console unit must be designed to:

  • to limit vibrations (comfort of occupants and neighbors),

  • ensure proper management of defrost water (drainage and removal),

  • to avoid problems related to freezing and defrosting cycles,

  • resist corrosion (salt, humidity, temperature variations).

This is exactly the type of context where installation expertise makes all the difference: it's not "just hooking up a machine", it's installing a system that will remain efficient year after year.

Why this Sharp installation is particularly suited to Rosemont

Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie combines many housing options with:

  • brick facades,

  • narrow balconies,

  • Rear/side access can sometimes be complex.

  • close neighbors (issues of noise and vibrations).

A Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump is a very effective response to this framework: compact, discreet, and capable of delivering precise comfort without invasive work.

Our AirGreen approach: clean, sustainable, compliant

In this project, our objective was the same as on every construction site: a clean , robust installation designed for the long term . This includes site selection, adherence to clearance requirements, pipe protection, and a configuration that simplifies future maintenance.

If you are in Montreal (Rosemont, Plateau, Villeray, Ahuntsic, etc.) and you want a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump installed correctly — for both aesthetics and performance — this is exactly the type of job we do every day.
