Wall-mounted heat pump cleaning in Saint-Lambert

A complete cleaning to revive a dirty outdoor unit

At AirGreen , we recently completed a full cleaning of a wall-mounted heat pump in a condominium in Saint-Lambert , on Montreal's South Shore. The outdoor unit, installed on a small concrete balcony against a brick wall, had significant dirt buildup on its fins and a uniform layer of dust on the top cover. Despite its semi-sheltered position, the lack of regular maintenance had ultimately reduced the system's overall performance.

Diagnosis before intervention

Upon our arrival, several signs indicated the need for a thorough interview:

  • The condenser fins are clogged , limiting heat dissipation.

  • Accumulation of dust, pollen and plant fibers trapped between the slats.

  • Traces of organic debris at the bottom of the container.

  • Refrigeration cables exposed to moisture , requiring insulation check.

The customer mentioned that the heat pump now took much longer to reach the desired temperature and made an unusual noise when starting up.

AirGreen Cleaning Steps

1. Securing and initial inspection

Before any intervention, we shut off the power at the outdoor circuit breaker box. A quick inspection of the compressor and fan confirmed that the problem stemmed primarily from dirt buildup on the condenser.

2. Removing the hood and accessing the heat exchanger

We carefully removed the front grille and cleared the fins to access the coil. This step allows for a thorough and safe cleaning without damaging the sensitive components.

3. Application of a biodegradable cleaner

Using an environmentally friendly cleaning product , specially designed for HVAC systems, we sprayed an active foam that dislodges ingrained dust and grease deposits.
After a reaction time of approximately ten minutes, the foam was rinsed with lukewarm water under low pressure , ensuring the preservation of the integrity of the fins.

4. Cleaning the fan and chassis

The fan was carefully wiped and balanced, while the outer chassis was hand-washed to remove fine particles and stuck-on dust.
We also cleaned the balcony floor to prevent dirt from being sucked back into the condenser.

5. Check the wiring and insulation

The refrigerant lines and electrical cables were inspected, and the damaged insulation was replaced with new protective sheathing . This step is essential to maintain the system's performance in both winter and summer.

6. Recommissioning and testing

Once the heat pump was reinstalled, we carried out the following:

  • An airflow and refrigerant pressure test .

  • An acoustic check to confirm the return to silent operation.

  • A temperature check to validate the efficiency of the heat transfer.

Results and benefits of cleaning

After the procedure, the results were immediate:

  • Energy efficiency restored with improved air circulation.

  • Reduced operating noise thanks to optimized ventilation.

  • Improving indoor air quality by eliminating potential dust and mold deposits.

  • Prevention of future breakdowns , particularly of the compressor, which is often affected by overwork caused by a blocked condenser.

The importance of regular maintenance

Even a properly installed wall-mounted heat pump inevitably accumulates dirt over the seasons. At AirGreen, we recommend a complete cleaning every year , ideally before periods of high usage (spring and fall).
Our certified technicians provide meticulous preventative maintenance , respecting manufacturer recommendations and Quebec HVAC standards.

Whether you are in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore or the South Shore , we offer professional services to preserve the performance, durability and cleanliness of your heating and air conditioning systems.
