Installation of a Coaire residential series wall-mounted heat pump in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension

Discreet and efficient 4-season comfort in a renovated living room

At AirGreen , we work weekly in apartments and plexes in north-central Montreal to replace old appliances with modern, efficient, and economical HVAC solutions. In this apartment located in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension , our team installed a Coaire wall-mounted heat pump (residential series) to air condition and heat a bright living room used as an office/bedroom. The result: an immediate gain in comfort, an optimized energy bill, and a finish that blends perfectly with the existing decor.

Client context and objectives

The owner wanted:

  • Precise and quiet cooling during the summer for a workspace without drafts or temperature fluctuations.

  • An additional heating capacity during the off-season to reduce the use of electric baseboard heaters.

  • Simple control thanks to a wired wall controller allowing you to lock certain settings (useful when the room is shared).

  • A clean HVAC system with short runs and minimal maintenance.

After a room-by-room load calculation, we recommended a capacity around 12,000 BTU (typical range for this volume and exposure) in the Coaire residential range . This sizing guarantees stable operation at low speeds — synonymous with silence and efficiency .

Why Coaire for this project?

The Coaire brand (residential wall-mounted range) is distinguished by:

  • A simple and robust design , appreciated for its stability at low revs.

  • Accessible electronic cards and standardized parts , facilitating service in Greater Montreal.

  • Compatibility with wired control panels , ideal when you want to avoid the IR remote control being freely accessible.

  • High efficiency in air conditioning mode and maintenance of heating capacity down to negative temperatures, suitable for Montreal winters (depending on the specific series selected).

Benefits for the user:

  • 2-in-1 heat pump : air conditioning in summer, additional heating in winter.

  • Low noise level thanks to a wide inverter range and a multi-position motor shutter to direct the air as precisely as possible.

  • Improved filtration : accessible grids and easy cleaning.

  • Control via wired controller : stable setpoint, child lock, time slots, and temperature reading at eye level.

Please note: Eligibility for grants (LogisVert, municipalities, efficiency programs) depends on the certifications of the installed configuration (Energy Star, low-temperature performance). We assist each client to verify the eligibility level of the proposed wall-mounted heat pump and prepare the required documents.

Reading the site and integration constraints

The indoor unit is installed high on the wall , close to a wall return, a solution often chosen in apartments in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension where the rooms are rectangular and have standard ceiling heights. Points to address:

  1. Air diffusion
The unit is positioned to blow into the depth of the room , avoiding obstacles (uprights, doors, curtains) and limiting direct impact on the work area. The motorized shutter allows precise vertical scanning and low-speed laminar flow to maintain acoustic comfort .

  2. Short refrigeration journey
The connections (insulated copper + communication cable) are run wall to wall towards the side facade, with a single 65 mm hole and a slight slope for gravity drainage of condensate. A discreet white capping protects the exterior outlet: it is clean, durable and easy to inspect .

  3. Condensate management
Since the site offers an outlet to the outside under the installation point, we chose gravity flow . Advantages: no pump , therefore zero noise and zero additional maintenance . In humid climates, this is a real plus.

  4. Wired wall controller
Installed at an ergonomic height, it measures the ambient temperature in the right place and avoids the drifts typical of IR remote controls placed on a piece of furniture. It also allows you to limit the instructions , useful for controlling consumption.

  5. Structural noise management
On the exterior side (not visible here), the compressor is mounted on galvanized anti-vibration brackets or on an insulated slab , depending on the facade. We select silent blocks with the appropriate hardness so as not to transmit waves to the masonry—a crucial point in Montreal plexes.

Key steps in HVAC installation

  1. Protection of the work area (tarpaulins, floor coverings, masking).

  2. Removal of existing elements where applicable and recovery of fluids in accordance with environmental standards.

  3. Installation of the wall plate : check for out-of-level and support strength (anchors suitable for the type of partition).

  4. Oriented drilling with controlled slope and anti-friction ring .

  5. Passage of refrigeration connections (deoxidized copper, high density continuous insulation, anti-UV tape), communication cable and drain .

  6. Brazing and flaring : ovality checks, tightening torque with a dynamometer, nitrogen flushing during brazing to preserve the internal cleanliness of the circuit.

  7. Deep vacuum (≤ 300 microns) with resistance test ; if necessary, nitrogen test .

  8. Opening of the fluid , checking of the load (possible excess distance) and commissioning .

  9. Setting the wired thermostat : setpoint, hysteresis, time slots, possible blockages.

  10. Functional tests in cold and hot conditions, user training and delivery of the maintenance logbook .

Result: comfort, silence and cost control

The room quickly reaches its set temperature, without over-ventilation. Occupants note:

  • A very low interior noise level , even in the evening in low mode.

  • Increased temperature stability thanks to the wall controller and automatic scanning.

  • In winter, a significant reduction in the use of baseboards thanks to the heat pump 's heating mode.

In terms of energy, the device operates mainly in partial mode , where the inverter offers its best efficiency. This results in a reduction in consumption compared to an old wall-mounted air conditioner coupled with purely resistive heating.

HVAC Maintenance: What We Recommend

To keep performance at its peak :

  • Clean filters every 4 to 8 weeks during periods of heavy use.

  • Annual inspection by our teams (Montreal, Laval , Longueuil , North Shore , South Shore ): in-depth cleaning of the evaporator and fan, checking the evacuation, checking the connections, measuring the refrigeration parameters .

  • Checking the exterior capping and snow removal around the condenser in winter.

  • Periodic check of the silent blocks and tightening of the fixings if necessary.

Important: Condensate pump failures are a thing of the past thanks to the gravity drain . Fewer components = fewer problems. Maintenance operations therefore focus on cleanliness and air circulation , two determining factors for efficiency and longevity.

Good usage practices

  • Aim for a reasonable setpoint (23–24°C in summer, 20–21°C in winter) to limit cycling and noise.

  • Use Auto mode with gentle sweeping to even out the temperature without drafts.

  • Leave the unit running continuously during intense heat waves rather than switching on and off; the inverter will modulate intelligently.

  • Program time windows via the wired controller to avoid over-air conditioning when away.

AirGreen Warranty and Service

This installation is covered by the manufacturer's warranties (parts/compressor depending on the series) and by our labor as part of our service policies. In addition, our customer is added to our express priority list : during peak periods, our teams reserve slots for recent installations to ensure rapid support—including during the summer, when lead times are longer everywhere else.

Our teams operate throughout Greater Montreal : Montreal intramural , Laval , Longueuil , North Shore and South Shore . We are familiar with the specific features of local plexes, condos and townhouses: wall passages, noise management on the lot , clean facade paths, compliance with borough regulations.

What to remember

  • A properly sized Coaire wall-mounted heat pump brings silence, comfort and savings to an urban home.

  • The wired controller stabilizes the setpoint and simplifies daily use.

  • A short refrigeration path and gravity drain reduce risks and maintenance.

  • AirGreen's careful HVAC installation —rigorous vacuuming, fine-tuning, training—makes all the difference in terms of sustainability .
