Installation of a Fujitsu Halcyon HFI wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

A precise installation above a passage, designed for comfort and discretion

In a typical Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie plex, our team installed aSharp wall-mounted heat pump in the entrance-living room area. The interior head is positioned above a door frame , at the junction of a hallway and the living room. This choice frees up useful walls, secures circulation, and allows for efficient airflow into the open area. The intervention has three objectives: stable comfort , quiet operation , and aesthetic integration without encroaching on the space.

Why a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump in a Rosemont plex?

Rosemont's narrow, through-plan homes benefit from longitudinal air distribution . The geometry of the rear facade (metal balcony, direct exterior access) also simplifies the outlet of refrigerant connections and condensates. The Sharp wall-mounted range is distinguished by:

  • fine modulation of the compressor ( inverter technology) to follow the variable loads of an open-plan apartment;

  • reduced interior head noise level , appreciated in entrances and corridors;

  • reliable heating in cold weather (low climate operating range) suitable for Montreal winters;

  • simplified maintenance : easily accessible filters and removable flaps for cleaning.

Sizing and performance: the BTU/comfort balance

For a 25-35 m² main room open to the entrance, a rating of 9,000 to 12,000 BTU generally meets the needs. We aim for a high SEER2 to limit summer consumption and an efficient HSPF2 for winter. The assembly compresses at low speed most of the time, which keeps noise and operating costs to a minimum. The soft-start option reduces current draws and protects the home's electrical system.

Choice of installation: above the door, precise to the millimeter

Placing the head high on a wall , above a passage, requires sufficient ceiling margin to breathe (suction) and open the hood without forcing. We strictly respect:

  • the ceiling distance prescribed by the manufacturer to avoid any recycling of hot/cold air;

  • the side guard on the door hinge side so that the motor flap opens without touching the moldings;

  • the rigidity of the support (load-bearing wall/support plate) in order to eliminate vibrations.

The airflow is directed towards the living area; in air conditioning mode, we aim for the "air curtain" effect which stabilizes the temperature near the openings. In heating mode, we set a progressive vertical sweep to distribute the heat from the ceiling to the occupied areas.

Refrigeration path and condensate management: simple, clean, sustainable

Installation near a balcony exit allows for direct access to the outside. Our best practices:

  • Drilling with a slight gravity slope to evacuate condensates without a pump (the most reliable and quiet solution).

  • Discreet, UV-stable white capping , clipped and screwed, to protect connections, insulation and communication cable.

  • Insulated copper refrigerant connections, silver brazed , tested under nitrogen then deep vacuum to eliminate humidity and guarantee performance.

  • Expansion loops and anti-friction collars to prevent wear over time.

Outside, two scenarios are preferred depending on the configuration: wall brackets with silentblocs when the balcony is clear, or anti-vibration slab if space allows. In this project, the main constraint is the proximity of the passage : we secure the cables, respect the ventilation clearances and direct the discharge so as not to hinder the use of the balcony.

Electricity and protections

The dedicated line complies with the circuit breaker rating and wire cross-section recommended on the nameplate. We install an external disconnect switch that is accessible for maintenance. Grounding is verified, and we validate the polarity of the control cable to avoid any communication errors between units.

Commissioning: method and quality control

  1. Nitrogen test of brazing and soap inspection.

  2. High vacuum < 500 microns, stabilized, to expel moisture.

  3. Opening of valves , control of blowing/suction temperatures and verification of intensities .

  4. Setting of shutters and flow rates ; memorization of oscillation angle.

  5. Delivery to the customer : instructions for use, seasonal adjustments, filter maintenance.

Result: controlled comfort, preserved aesthetics

The unit, visually recessed into the lintel, frees up wall space in the living room and remains virtually inaudible at nominal operation. The wide sweep covers the living area without creating drafts in the passageway. The gravity drain eliminates the risk of pump failure and reduces maintenance. The overall result is a clean, accessible HVAC system ready for many years of service.

Grants and Eligibility

High-efficiency, Energy Star -certified wall-mounted heat pumps with low-temperature performance may be eligible for financial assistance (programs in Quebec and the federal government). We evaluate each application based on the cold performance range and the home's configuration, then assist the client in compiling the necessary documents : detailed invoices, proof of professional installation, and before/after photos.

Maintenance and good usage practices

  • Filters : Dust every 4 to 6 weeks during the season, clean with warm water if necessary.

  • Outdoor unit fins : keep clearance free (leaves, snow) and avoid storage against the grille.

  • Defrosting : in winter, let the appliance complete its cycles; do not force it to stop.

  • Instructions : Aim for 22–23°C in summer and 21°C in winter; a reasonable difference maximizes efficiency.

  • Annual AirGreen inspection : refrigerant check, electrical tightening, evaporator cleaning and performance readings.

Pitfalls to avoid in a Rosemont plex

  • Undersizing the capacity in an open, through area: the device would run at full capacity, be noisier and less efficient.

  • Neglecting the ceiling guard : the suction of stale air distorts the temperature measurement and degrades comfort.

  • Drain against the slope : risk of leaks and odors; gravity takes priority, the pump is only a plan B.

  • Rough drilling in a jamb: always check the structure and networks (electrical, masonry) before drilling.

AirGreen support, from selection to satisfaction

We operate throughout Greater MontrealMontreal , Laval , Longueuil , North Shore and South Shore — with a turnkey approach: technical pre-visit, advice on brand and capacity , implementation plan, careful HVAC installation , instrumented commissioning and post-project monitoring. Each site receives complete documentation and technical photos to simplify future maintenance and grant procedures.

By choosing a Sharp heat pump installed above a passageway in a Rosemont plex, we combine discretion , energy efficiency and easy maintenance . The result: a comfortable indoor climate all year round, tangible energy savings and harmonious integration into the character of the buildings in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie.
