Four-season performance for a Laval home: three interior zones, careful aesthetics and rigorous commissioning by AirGreen.
Context: uniform comfort and controlled consumption
In this Chomedey (Laval) house, the family wanted consistent comfort on both the upper and lower floors, while limiting electricity consumption. The rooms to be treated—living room, master bedroom, and office—required a compact, quiet, and reliable multi-zone solution in winter. We recommended a Sharp MultiZone heat pump ( TU series, R-32/A2L refrigerant), paired with three high-efficiency wall-mounted heads .
Why a Sharp Multi-Zone (R-32)
The new generation R-32 reduces the refrigerant charge and increases volumetric efficiency compared to R-410A, with a lower environmental impact (lower GWP). Sharp Multi-Zone TU systems are distinguished by:
-
Fine inverter modulation : temperature stability and reduced noise.
-
Independent zone management : each room has its own setpoint, without air conflict.
-
Sharp range extreme cold compatibility and optimized defrosting logic.
-
Safety elements and A2L signage comply with Canadian requirements.
Sizing and selection of heads
After thermal survey (surface, insulation, orientation, windows), we assigned:
-
Living Room : 12,000 BTU wall-mounted unit to cover the open area.
-
Master bedroom : 9,000 BTU for low-power operation at night.
-
Office : 9,000 BTU for stable comfort while teleworking.
This distribution favors low blowing speeds , therefore minimal noise and better dehumidification in summer.
Outdoor installation: clean, sustainable, accessible
On the brick side facade, the Sharp outdoor unit is installed on galvanized brackets above ground level. This elevation:
-
keeps the condenser free from snow and debris ;
-
improves flow during defrost cycles;
-
facilitates maintenance and cleaning of the fins.
The refrigerant lines exit the house in a white UV-resistant cap . A manifold is visible to the right, where the three pairs of insulated lines and the communication cable meet. The disconnect box is positioned within easy reach, in accordance with the Code, for safety and quick service .
Line routing: minimal losses, maximum aesthetics
Each zone has its own copper/liquid-gas pair, continuously insulated and clamped with stainless steel clamps. The bending radius is respected to avoid any mechanical stress. The total lengths have been optimized (lateral route on the facade then short internal mountings) in order to:
-
reduce pressure losses ;
-
limit any additional charge ;
-
maximize the actual EER/SEER of the system.
The condensate drain for each head is installed by gravity with a regular slope. In rare unfavorable areas, a silent pump is provided, but here the layout allows for gravity drainage—simpler and more reliable.
Drilling and sealing
The holes are made with an outward slope of 2–3%, sheathed with vapor barrier sleeves . We fill them with elastomeric mastic and apply a discreet flashing on the outside to guarantee airtightness and prevent any water infiltration.
Power supply and compliance
The system is powered by a dedicated circuit from the main panel. The conductor sizing , grounding , circuit breaker , and proximity switch meet the manufacturer's requirements and the Canadian Electrical Code . Each circuit is identified (durable labels) to simplify future diagnostics.
Commissioning: our method
-
Deep vacuum (< 500 microns) with resistance test.
-
Opening of valves and load verification according to actual lengths.
-
Measurement of evaporation/condensation temperatures , superheating and subcooling .
-
Control of defrosting intensities and sequence.
-
Room-by-room tests: flow rate , sweep , temperature differences , noise level .
-
Customer training: filter maintenance, good storage and fashion practices.
Result obtained
From the very first hours, the family feels constant comfort and remarkable silence . The inverter algorithm stabilizes the temperature smoothly; at night, the heads of the rest zones display a minimal flow rate for a more restful sleep . In summer, dehumidification is noticeable, with drier and healthier air.
Visible details of the installation (what makes the difference)
-
Aligned white capping , stainless steel screws and discreet seals .
-
Heavy duty brackets with anti-vibration pads to cut the transmission to the wall.
-
Electrical disconnection clearly accessible for maintenance.
-
Multiple lines carefully sorted and isolated , avoiding unnecessary crossings.
-
Clearance around the condenser meets the recommendations for optimal airflow.
Recommended HVAC maintenance
-
Cleaning the head filters : every 4–8 weeks.
-
Annual inspection: pressure switches , electrical , condition of insulation , drain flow .
-
Winter Exterior Control: Keep the unit clear of snow and leaves.
-
Gentle washing of the fins in spring to maintain heat exchange .
Grants and support
High-efficiency wall-mounted and multi-zone heat pumps using new-generation refrigerants are usually eligible for financial assistance programs in Quebec. We provide the required technical photos , model numbers , detailed invoices and proof of installation , and we guide our clients in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, North Shore and South Shore in preparing the file.
Best practices for multi-zone use
-
Favor stable instructions ; avoid frequent variations.
-
Leave the doors open in the areas to be covered by the same head.
-
In harsh winters, keep the outdoor unit clear of snowdrifts to limit the frequency of defrosting.
-
Program ventilation ranges to even out the temperature after long absences.
Pitfalls to avoid (feedback)
-
Undersize an area: the head will spin at high speed, noisier and less efficient.
-
Grouping too many lengths in a single narrow hood: risk of crushing the insulation and condensation .
-
Omitting the disconnection or placing it too far away: loss of service time, non-compliance.
-
Fixing the condenser too low : snow accumulation and ineffective defrosting .
