Carefully integrated into a corner of a room: four-season comfort without compromising on aesthetics
At AirGreen , we recently installed a Gree wall-mounted heat pump – Livo R32 range in a renovated apartment in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie . The client wanted an efficient HVAC solution for both heating and cooling, while maintaining clean walls and optimal air circulation. The room's configuration – an angle close to the ceiling with little clearance – required precise installation to maintain performance and discretion.
Why a Gree wall-mounted heat pump (R-32) for this project?
Gree 's Livo R32 range stands out for its energy efficiency , stability in cold climates and remarkably quiet operation, all of which are significant advantages in an urban area of Montreal . R-32 refrigerant reduces the environmental footprint compared to R-410A and allows for high heating efficiencies .
Key points retained for this accommodation:
-
Inverter technology finely modulate power to maintain a constant temperature.
-
Efficient heating mode down to low temperatures, suitable for Greater Montreal winters.
-
Low noise level ideal for use in bedrooms or adjoining living rooms.
-
Multi-layer filtration improving indoor air quality.
-
Compatibility with efficient heat pump programs generally offered in Quebec.
The BTU capacity was determined according to the actual surface area , the orientation of the windows and the quality of insulation of the building, to avoid overpowering and promote controlled consumption .
Interior installation: millimeter precision in an angle
The wall-mounted indoor unit was installed at the top of the wall , centered on the axis of the room to promote diffusion over the occupied area. The chosen angle reduces the visual impact and frees up the walls for furnishings.
Implementation decisions:
-
Ceiling clearance respected so as not to disrupt air intake.
-
Blowing height allowing a curtain effect along the ceiling before the air descends into the comfort zone.
-
Short connection route to the outside to limit pressure losses and simplify maintenance.
-
Gravity drainage preferred to avoid adding a lifting pump (zero additional noise, less maintenance).
During installation, we filled and sanded the drilled areas (you will notice the plaster dots in the photo), before indicating to the customer the final paint touch-up for a completely uniform finish.
Refrigerant connections and sealing: performance and longevity
To ensure the durability of the installation, we apply a strict protocol:
-
Controlled bending of copper tubes to maintain the useful section and avoid stress points.
-
Complete line insulation with high density shells, sealed junctions, anti-UV tape at the ends.
-
Wall crossing with sheath, exterior sealant and adequate slope for the drain.
-
Communication and power wiring run in the same path, with pressure relief on the back of the unit to avoid stressing the terminal blocks.
On the outside, the capping is harmonized with the facade (light color), with a clean vertical path minimizing the total length (approximately 6 to 8 meters between the interior head and the condenser).
Commissioning: AirGreen quality checks
Our certified technicians systematically carry out:
-
Nitrogen test to detect any micro-leaks.
-
Deep vacuum to remove residual moisture and air.
-
Fluid opening and pressure balancing .
-
Electrical verification according to the Canadian Electrical Code (dedicated circuit breaker, polarity, grounding).
-
Functional tests in heating and air conditioning: blowing temperature, setpoint stability, defrost cycles, noise and vibrations.
Result: stable start-up , a uniform temperature and a discreet noise level .
Comfort and use: our settings and advice
To maximize the benefits of the wall-mounted heat pump on a daily basis:
-
Use moderate settings (e.g. 21–22°C for heating, 23–24°C for air conditioning) to let the inverter work continuously, which reduces consumption .
-
Turn the shutter slightly towards the ceiling in air conditioning mode to reinforce the Coandă effect and avoid directive air currents.
-
When heating, favor a horizontal or slightly downward orientation to distribute the heat in the occupied area.
-
Clean filters every 1 to 2 months; a clean filter improves air quality and maintains performance .
-
Perform annual HVAC maintenance : inspect the outdoor unit, clean the evaporator, check the tightening, check the condensate.
Condensate management and trace prevention
In a gravity installation, the slope of the drain pipe is essential. We have planned:
-
A regular slope towards the outside,
-
A drop point far from the pedestrian crossing,
-
Maintenance access for purging and cleaning.
These precautions prevent odor returns , obstruction by biofilm and droplets on the facade.
Aesthetics and finishes in a renovated home
The construction site is located in a freshly painted environment; we therefore have:
-
Protected the surroundings during drilling,
-
Masked and aligned each fastener,
-
Left walls ready to paint after filling.
The compact, soft-lined wall unit blends into the room's light palette . Once reworked, the headboard blends visually into the architecture without intruding on the furnishings.
Grants and administrative support
The Gree Livo R32 , as a high-efficiency wall-mounted heat pump , is generally eligible for assistance programs in Quebec (e.g., Hydro-Québec initiatives and the Rénoclimat program, according to current criteria). We guide our customers to:
-
eligibility validation ,
-
preparation of documents (estimates and detailed invoices),
-
photos of compliance and inspection steps, if required.
The device helps reduce energy bills and stabilize comfort year-round, which increases the value of the home .
