An installation adapted to the constraints of city center buildings
At AirGreen , we often encounter projects that require specific expertise due to urban constraints. This is the case with this Gree central heat pump installation on a flat roof in the Ville-Marie area of Montreal. The client, the owner of a mixed-use building, wanted to modernize its air conditioning and heating system to improve indoor comfort while reducing energy costs.
Project background
The building, located in the heart of the city center, posed several challenges:
-
Restricted access to equipment, with the obligation to work at height on a flat roof.
-
The need to install the condenser on a raised structure , in order to guarantee durability against accumulations of water and snow.
-
Integration of the new central heat pump into existing ducts, while complying with HVAC standards and safety requirements.
Technical details of the installed equipment
We chose a new generation Gree central heat pump with R-32 refrigerant , known for its low temperature performance and energy efficiency.
-
Capacity : between 2 and 5 tonnes, depending on the configuration of the conduits.
-
Inverter technology : allows continuous power adjustment for optimal comfort and reduced consumption.
-
Heating performance : capable of operating efficiently down to -25°C, an essential criterion for Montreal.
-
Grant compatibility : the equipment meets the criteria of Quebec programs, including financial assistance for conversion to energy-efficient systems.
Installation Steps
Roof preparation and supporting structure
To ensure optimal stability, we installed the outdoor condenser on a metal support anchored on rubber pads , designed to protect the roof membrane. This configuration also allows good air circulation and reduces vibrations transmitted to the building structure.
Connecting conduits and power supply
The refrigerant and electrical connections have been carefully laid through the technical chimney , which limits the exposure of the pipes to the elements. Protected and insulated wiring guarantees the safety and durability of the system.
Commissioning and testing
Once the installation was complete, our technicians performed a leak test, a vacuum draw, and a system calibration . Commissioning concluded with a fine-tuning of the pressure and a complete performance check to ensure that the heat pump operates optimally for both heating and cooling.
Results and benefits for the client
Thanks to this installation, the customer now benefits from:
-
Constant comfort in all seasons , with efficient heating even during the bitter cold of Montreal.
-
Significant reductions on energy bills , thanks to Inverter technology.
-
A durable system, protected against the elements, and easy to access for future HVAC maintenance .
