A clean and quiet interior integration that changes everyday comfort
At AirGreen , we have just completed the HVAC installation of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in a typical ground floor of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie (Montreal) . The client's goal: to efficiently air condition the main living area in the summer, and enjoy stable and economical heating in the off-season and in the winter. The result: a discreet, responsive and economical system that maintains a constant temperature without unwanted noise.
Background and choice of equipment
The apartment features moldings and drop ceilings typical of Montreal plexes. We recommend a latest-generation Gree wall-mounted heat pump with R-32 refrigerant , selected for:
-
its high energy efficiency (R-32 = less refrigerant charge and better seasonal performance);
-
its extreme cold versions capable of providing heating down to −25°C (depending on configuration);
-
its very quiet operation in night mode;
-
its compact design which blends harmoniously into the interior decor.
The interior head is positioned high on the wall , above a ceiling drop, in order to optimize air stratification : cold air is blown across the width in summer, hot air is directed towards the floor in winter thanks to motorized shutters. The discreet display indicates the setpoint (set here at 19°C at the time of testing).
Visible technical details and choice of location
-
Height and Clearances : The unit is installed under the molding to meet the required clearances above and to the sides, ensuring even distribution of airflow without creating shadow areas.
-
Wall sensor/box : A small adjacent wall module acts as a remote sensor/receiver . Placed away from the direct flow, it makes temperature reading more reliable and improves control accuracy.
-
Through-drilling : The refrigerant passage is made behind the unit for a clean finish and a short path to the outside, limiting losses and vibrations.
-
Condensate management : evacuation is carried out by gravity , with a controlled slope. This choice avoids the addition of a lifting pump and reduces maintenance and noise risks.
-
Power supply : Dedicated circuit, suitable circuit breaker and sheathed wiring to the outdoor condenser, in accordance with RBQ/CSA requirements. Grounding and tightness of terminal blocks are checked at the end of the project.
Exterior route and finishes (courtyard/alley side)
The Gree condenser is located on the courtyard side, in an open and ventilated area. Two support options are preferred depending on the site:
-
Galvanized wall brackets to stay above the snow level and facilitate snow removal;
-
or anti-vibration slab if the masonry is not suitable.
In this project, the path is capped with a wall to protect the refrigeration connections and maintain a clean appearance on the brick and cladding. Silent blocks limit the transmission of vibrations to the structure.
AirGreen commissioning and quality protocols
Our technicians apply a systematic protocol:
-
Calibrated flaring and controlled tightening torque of the fittings.
-
Nitrogen pressure testing followed by deep vacuum to remove moisture and ensure watertightness.
-
Electrical check : polarity, tightening, circuit breaker, indoor/outdoor communication.
-
Settings : auto mode, speeds, flap orientation, calibration of the remote probe.
-
Thermal test in cold and hot conditions to validate the blown/ambient temperature differences and inverter stability .
This process ensures peak efficiency , increased compressor longevity and minimal noise levels .
Performance and benefits for Montreal housing
-
Seasonal efficiency : thanks to inverter modulation, the heat pump finely adapts its power to actual needs, which reduces consumption and the yo-yo temperature effect .
-
Four-season comfort : precise air conditioning in summer, efficient heating down to -25°C (depending on the Gree R-32 variant chosen), ideal for Montreal winters.
-
Air quality : accessible washable filters, anti-humidity modes useful during periods of rain and heat waves.
-
Silence : “quiet” mode for the night, location designed to avoid acoustic reverberation on the ceiling drop.
Grants and Eligibility
R-32 wall-mounted heat pumps, Energy Star certified and offering extreme cold performance , are generally eligible for current grant programs (depending on criteria). We support our customers in:
-
verification of technical criteria (required yields, heating range);
-
preparation of documents (detailed invoice, product sheets);
-
filing applications to maximize return on investment.
Our team can also evaluate envelope improvements (caulking, waterproofing) to further increase the impact of the work.
HVAC Use and Maintenance Tips
To maintain optimal performance:
-
Filter : Vacuum or wash every 4 to 6 weeks during peak periods.
-
Instructions : avoid frequent trips of 3–4°C; favor a stable setting (e.g. 23°C summer, 21°C winter).
-
Heatwave dehumidification mode for increased comfort without overcooling.
-
Condenser clearance : Keep 60–90 cm free in front, and clear snow in winter.
-
Annual AirGreen maintenance : inspection, complete cleaning of heat exchangers, monitoring of refrigeration parameters, electrical tightening. This HVAC maintenance extends the lifespan and prevents performance declines.
Pitfalls to avoid when building a plex/condo project
-
Head too close to the ceiling : it must not “stick” to the molding, at the risk of turbulence and false thermal reading.
-
Drain without slope which requires a pump unnecessarily (noise, maintenance): favor gravity when the architecture allows it.
-
Poorly located drilling through a fragile brick or a cracked joint: we use load-bearing areas , sealed with mastic/flashing.
-
Condenser in a recess : risk of hot air recirculation and loss of capacity. A ventilated location is a priority.
Deadlines and organization of work
Our typical process for a residential wall-mounted HVAC installation :
-
Technical visit : choice of location, electrical validation, measurement of the route.
-
Detailed proposal : power (9k, 12k, 18k, 24k BTU depending on the room), technical data sheets, control options (Wi-Fi, remote sensor).
-
Installation : usually in one day , with surface protection, clean drilling and full testing.
-
Providing explanations to the customer and advice on how to optimize savings.
Result at Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie
The client now benefits from stable comfort in the living area, better controlled humidity in the summer, and economical heating support in the fall and winter. The indoor unit blends into the decor, with no visible cables and a very low noise level . Outside, the condenser is clear and ready for the Montreal winter.
