A careful HVAC installation that prioritizes comfort, discretion and efficiency — signed AirGreen
Client context and needs
In Chomedey, in the heart of Laval , a homeowner wanted to upgrade his air conditioning system and add efficient supplemental heating for the shoulder seasons and cold days. His priorities: a clean and durable HVAC system , a discreet outdoor compressor for a semi-enclosed patio, a quiet indoor unit , and a reliable solution for summer humidity.
We recommended a Sharp ZU1 series wall-mounted heat pump ( R-32 refrigerant), known for its solid seasonal performance, reliability and Plasmacluster purification technology. The operating range easily covers the needs of a medium-sized home to a large open room, with an excellent efficiency/consumption ratio.
Why the Sharp ZU1 range?
-
High efficiency in air conditioning and heating thanks to the inverter which finely modulates the power according to the actual load.
-
R-32 refrigerant : better heat transfer and reduced global warming potential compared to R-410A, for a more eco-responsible solution.
-
Plasmacluster Technology : Positive/negative ions that help reduce suspended particles and improve indoor air quality .
-
Quiet operation of the indoor and outdoor units, ideal for a terrace and close neighbors typical of residential areas of Laval.
-
Precise dehumidification mode for stable comfort even on heavy, humid days in Greater Montreal.
For residences in Montreal , Laval , Longueuil , North Shore and South Shore , Sharp occupies a place of choice for a reliable, easy-to-maintain and economical wall-mounted heat pump .
Concrete details of the installation (exterior)
Installation on wall supports
The condenser was mounted on sturdy anti-vibration brackets , laser-aligned to ensure horizontality and the necessary clearance at the rear and sides. This overhead installation:
-
protects equipment from water and snow accumulation;
-
limits the rise of humidity and dust;
-
reduces the transmission of vibrations to the walls.
Management of refrigeration and electrical connections
The refrigerant lines (high-density insulated copper) and the power/communication cable run in a light-colored protective trunking , facilitating maintenance and protecting against UV rays.
The route is short and straight (≈ 2 to 3 m), which minimizes load losses and optimizes efficiency. An external disconnect box is installed in the immediate vicinity, in accordance with good practices and local electrical requirements for safe disconnection during maintenance.
Drainage and maintenance
A gravity-fed defrost/condensate drain is provided to evacuate water to the technical area without splashing back. This configuration limits ice formation and facilitates visual monitoring during the winter.
Installation details (interior) and comfort achieved
The wall-mounted head is positioned for uniform air distribution in the main living area, away from obstacles (side walls, curtains) and out of direct flow onto occupants. Automatic sweeping improves temperature uniformity; the internal sensor works in concert with the inverter to stabilize the setpoint while reducing on/off cycles —guaranteeing savings and longevity.
AirGreen Site Challenges and Solutions
1) Semi-enclosed terrace and air circulation
The outdoor space includes a concrete railing and decorative trellis. Our team validated the required fan and coil clearances to prevent hot air recycling in the summer and ensure efficient defrosting in the winter. As a result, the condenser breathes properly and maintains its performance.
2) Noise and close proximity
In dense residential areas, noise pollution is an issue. We have:
-
selected a suitable fan speed range ;
-
mounted the unit on silent blocks ;
-
stiffened the anchors and connection tightenings to avoid parasitic noise .
In everyday life, the perceived noise level remains very low , even in the evening when the environment is quieter.
3) Laval winter and snow
The unit is raised on its brackets and away from snow blowing areas. The clearances ensure free flow during defrosting, limiting ice cubes under the machine and preserving the terrace slab.
Results measured at the customer
-
Stable indoor temperature and better controlled humidity , perceived by the disappearance of “too cool” areas during air conditioning cycles.
-
Reduced consumption compared to an old fixed-speed air conditioner, thanks to inverter modulation and R-32 .
-
Improved air quality (reduced dust/odors) with regular activation of Plasmacluster mode.
Good practices for use and maintenance
Recommended settings
-
In summer , aim for 23–24°C with Auto or Cool mode and vertical sweep enabled.
-
In mid-season and on cold days, use Heat mode with a setting of 20–21°C for comfortable and efficient heating .
-
In humid periods, Dry mode stabilizes humidity without overcooling.
HVAC Maintenance
-
Filters : vacuum every 4 to 6 weeks during use, wash in warm water if necessary;
-
Indoor battery and condensate tray: annual professional cleaning ;
-
Condenser : seasonal visual inspection, clearance of debris and verification of free flow of condensate;
-
Refrigeration check : leak test and operating parameters according to the intervals recommended by AirGreen.
Grants and Eligibility (Overview)
Recent R-32 wall-mounted heat pumps with certified performance may be eligible for certain assistance programs in effect in Quebec. Eligibility varies depending on the exact model, configuration and building file. Our team assists each client in Montreal , Laval , Longueuil , North Shore and South Shore in verifying criteria and preparing documents.
