Installation of a Sharp (ZU1 series) wall-mounted heat pump in Chomedey (Laval)

Four-season comfort, discreet and energy-efficient, designed for homes on the North Shore.

Context and objectives of the project

At AirGreen , we are modernizing the comfort of a ground floor apartment in Chomedey. The client wants to air condition the open living area (kitchen-living room-dining room) and benefit from stable supplemental heating in winter. We recommend a Sharp ZU1 series wall-mounted heat pump (R-32 refrigerant), designed for Quebec's cold weather and year-round efficiency.

Why the Sharp ZU1 for Laval and Greater Montreal

  • Four-season performance : excellent air conditioning performance in summer and heat retention in low winter temperatures, ideal for Montreal , Laval , Longueuil , the North Shore and the South Shore .

  • R-32 : new generation refrigerant, more efficient, reducing the charge and environmental footprint.

  • Quiet and smooth diffusion : the shape of the blower ramp minimizes turbulence and ensures even distribution in open areas.

  • Precise control : remote control/wall control and temperature maintenance functions for in-between seasons.

Sizing and capacity selection

We size capacity based on surface area, solar gain, and insulation. For an open-plan space like a ground floor in Laval, a range of 9,000 to 15,000 BTU/h covers most needs. The ZU1 offers an excellent seasonal ratio, limiting consumption in maintenance mode.

Installation details (Chomedey site)

  • Interior positioning : Wall-mounted head installed high up, centered on the load-bearing wall above the passage to the terrace. This placement exploits the Coandă effect to push cool/warm air along the ceiling and irrigate the entire room.

  • Optimized refrigeration path : direct wall crossing behind the head; connections of approximately 3 to 5 m to limit pressure losses and refrigeration noise.

  • Condensate management : gravity drainage with continuous slope; no pump required, therefore zero additional maintenance and total silence.

  • Drilling and sealing : core drilling ≈ 65 mm, insulated sleeve, fire-resistant foam, weatherproofing on the exterior side; discreet capping coordinated with the woodwork.

  • Outdoor condenser : installed in the immediate vicinity of the drilling to reduce the line length; clearances respected for air flow and maintenance access.

  • Power Supply : Dedicated circuit compliant with Code, cross-section suitable for Sharp nameplate; double-pole circuit breaker and surge protection recommended.

  • Commissioning : deep vacuum (< 500 microns), leak test, R-32 charge compensation, supply/return temperature control and current verification.

Result: measurable comfort, careful aesthetics

  • Immediate comfort : rapid lowering of 2 to 3°C in the living area; in winter, stable setpoint maintained without drying out the air.

  • Acoustics : the interior head is almost inaudible at low speed; the condenser, far from the living areas, remains discreet on the terrace.

  • Integration : clean finish around the crossing; decorative shelf and woodwork preserved, no visible sheathing inside.

Good AirGreen practices (not to be neglected)

  1. Short lengths : each meter gained improves compressor performance and longevity.

  2. Gravity drainage : favor the slope; a pump is only installed as a last resort.

  3. Condenser Clearances : Keep back and sides clear; avoid enclosed corners or sources of blown snow.

  4. Winter protection : clear snow, check the defrost drain; never cover the condenser during the heating season.

  5. Filtration : Clean filters every 4 to 8 weeks during peak seasons to maintain air flow and quality.

Maintenance and durability

  • Annual visit : exchanger inspection, terminal tightening, leak check, condensate tray cleaning, pressure/temperature measurement.

  • Air hygiene : dusting of filters and, periodically, gentle treatment of batteries to limit biofilms.

  • Firmware/control update : if the unit is connected, we check the settings to optimize the blowing curve and defrosting.

Grants and savings

Sharp's efficient R-32 wall-mounted heat pumps are generally eligible for Quebec efficiency programs when seasonal performance and cold weather operation criteria are met. We assist our customers in Greater Montreal— Montreal , Laval , Longueuil , North Shore , South Shore —with eligibility verification and administrative procedures.

What more we bring

  • Detailed engineering : room-by-room calculation, verification of air returns, placement to limit “dead zones”.

  • Finish : clean crossings, careful sealing, harmonized capping.

  • Follow-up : maintenance reminder, usage advice, assistance in the event of performance variations (pollen, heatwave, cold spells).

Daily usage tips

  • Maintain a stable temperature (22–23°C summer, 20–21°C winter).

  • Use dehumidification mode on muggy days to increase perceived comfort without overcooling.

  • In winter, leave interior doors ajar to diffuse heat into adjacent areas.

  • Avoid obstructing the air intake (shelves, frames) to maintain the flow.

In summary

In Chomedey, the Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted HVAC system transforms a living space into a comfortable space year-round, with discreet integration, low energy consumption, and simple maintenance. Our AirGreen team oversees every step: consulting, installation, commissioning, and follow-up, throughout Greater Montreal.
