Careful interior integration in a dining area: four-season comfort without compromise
At AirGreen , we have just completed the installation of a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump (ZU1 series) in an apartment in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (CDN-NDG) sector. The client's goal: to improve year-round thermal comfort , reduce noise, and preserve the aesthetics of the dining area that opens onto the living room. The result: a discreet, efficient HVAC installation that is designed to last.
Why a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump (ZU1 series) here?
The ZU1 series stands out for its inverter modulation , low noise footprint and the presence of Plasmacluster Ion technology which improves indoor air quality – a welcome asset in Montreal homes that are used extensively on a daily basis. For this project, this range is essential because it offers:
-
Stable heating in cold climates , ideal for Montreal winters.
-
Precise blowing with automatic shutters ensuring even air distribution.
-
Simplified maintenance (washable filters, direct access to the housing).
Reading space and positioning the inner head
The apartment features load-bearing gypsum walls on a frame , a typical low ceiling and a compact dining area . We positioned the wall headboard high up, above the table, in order to:
-
Free up floor traffic and avoid any obstruction around chairs.
-
Optimize natural convection : cool/conditioned air falls gently into the dining area, while heating diffuses without creating excessive stratification.
-
Move the fan away from light fixtures and limit shadows.
The manufacturer's recommended side and top clearance is respected, guaranteeing airflow without recirculation or parasitic noise.
Interior finish: white capping and clean line
The refrigeration connections and the condensate drain are grouped together in a discreet white capping , applied vertically along the wall return, then guided towards the technical outlet. This choice provides:
-
Perfect visual integration with white walls and existing moldings.
-
Mechanical protection of lines (chair impacts, household maintenance).
-
Easy access during service: each capping section can be unclipped.
The gravity drain has a continuous minimum slope; anti-condensation insulation is installed at sensitive points to prevent any surface humidity in summer.
Drilling and sealing: preserving the building envelope
We make a hole punch behind the capping, with:
-
Reconstituted vapor barrier sleeve for continuous sealing.
-
Compatible elastomeric sealant for sealing the feedthrough.
-
Anchor collars on the bulkhead drop to immobilize the beam.
This method prevents unwanted air ingress and contributes to the silence of the installation.
Power supply and compliance
The heat pump is connected to a dedicated 240 V circuit , protected at the electrical panel in accordance with RBQ and Hydro-Québec requirements. An independent circuit breaker allows for rapid isolation in the event of maintenance. The inter-unit communication cable follows the same covered technical path , marked and secured to prevent any tearing.
Commissioning: AirGreen protocol
Our commissioning routine includes:
-
Nitrogen test of refrigeration connections.
-
Deep vacuum draw with stabilization.
-
Checking the intensities and temperatures blown in hot/cold.
-
Calibration of automatic modes (setpoint, shutter swing, fan speed).
-
Customer training : filter cleaning, seasonal usage best practices.
This protocol guarantees long-lasting performance , limits operating noise and secures the warranty .
Result: comfort, silence and preserved aesthetics
Upon switching on, the temperature differential is quickly reached in the dining area and living room. The noise level remains very low in Auto mode, which makes meals and evenings pleasant. The hooded design blends into the decor: the eye is focused on the table and not on the equipment.
AirGreen Tips for Compact Living Spaces
-
Position high to free up space and avoid direct airflow onto guests.
-
Prefer gravity drain when possible: less maintenance than a pump.
-
Keep the route of connections short to optimize seasonal yields.
-
Clean filters every 6 to 8 weeks during periods of heavy use.
-
Schedule annual HVAC maintenance : drain inspection, electrical tightening, coil washing.
What about the outdoor unit?
In this type of CDN-NDG apartment, the outdoor unit is generally installed on a flat roof (raised supports) or on a rear balcony when compliant with regulations. We favor anti-vibration supports and sufficient clearance around the condenser to maintain optimal airflow , summer and winter.
