Background and objectives
At AirGreen , we are working on a typical brick building in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie . The owner wants to modernize the comfort of the home while controlling electricity consumption. The site has a narrow courtyard, visible meters, and several ducts on the facade. Our mandate: to install a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump while respecting the building's aesthetics, regulatory clearances, and electrical safety.
Equipment selection and responsible sizing
We favor a new generation Sharp wall-mounted heat pump , compatible with low GWP refrigerant and designed for cold climates . Our selection process takes into account:
-
thermal load (building envelope, exposure, air infiltration);
-
of the occupation profile and schedules;
-
installation constraints (heights, routes, outside noise).
This type of unit offers:
-
stable heating in cold weather with inverter modulation;
-
precise and quiet air conditioning in summer;
-
improved filtration and advanced anti-frost functions;
-
optimized consumption thanks to the variable speed compressor.
External installation: anchors, capping and security
The outdoor unit is fixed on galvanized steel wall brackets with silent blocks to limit the transmission of vibrations to the brick.
Key points of our achievement:
-
Useful height above snow accumulations and away from yard dust;
-
Vertical capping coordinated with the facade to protect refrigerant lines, communication cable and gravity drain ;
-
Disconnection box in the immediate vicinity of the unit, supplied by rigid conduit, to facilitate maintenance and electrical isolation;
-
Clearances maintained around the fan to ensure airflow and defrosting.
We optimized the connection route : a single, clean hole, streamlined length to limit pressure losses and maintain high efficiency. Everything integrates harmoniously with the networks already in place on the facade.
Cohabitation with old equipment and interference management
The site had an old condenser installed lower down on a low wall. We have:
-
checked the clearances between devices to avoid recirculation of hot air;
-
separated the condensate drains to eliminate the risk of backflow;
-
validated the electrical selectivity and the identification of circuits at the meter level.
This approach avoids any harmful interaction and prepares the ground for future removal if the owner wishes to standardize the fleet of devices.
Drilling, sealing and finishing
Our teams drill into the mortar joints when the structure allows, in order to preserve the brick. The penetrations are sealed on the inside and outside, then capped . The gravity drain is laid with a continuous slope; the absence of a pump reduces maintenance and the risk of noise. Inside, the passage is discreet and the wall head benefits from a position favorable to air stratification.
Result: measurable comfort and tidy facade
-
Outside noise controlled thanks to the detached support and slow modulation in mid-season.
-
Rapid temperature rise at start-up, then maintained at low speed for stable comfort.
-
Clean facade : straight conduits, harmonized colors, no loose visible cables.
-
Clear service access for maintenance (coil cleaning, pressure/load control, diagnostics).
Recommended preventive maintenance
To maintain performance throughout Montreal winters:
-
Cleaning the internal filters every 1 to 2 months during use;
-
Clearing of air inlets and visual inspection of the capping in the fall;
-
Annual HVAC maintenance by AirGreen (electrical checks, defrost test, drain condition, heat exchange control).
Regular maintenance secures seasonal performance and protects the warranty.
Standards, guarantees and subsidies
Our installations comply with the electrical codes in force in Quebec, the manufacturer's requirements and best practices for HVAC installation on brick.
Depending on the chosen configuration (efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification and cold performance), the heat pump may be eligible for financial assistance programs applicable in Greater Montreal. We assist our clients in verifying eligibility and preparing applications.
