Installation of a Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump in Brossard (South Shore)

A clean, precise installation designed to last

In Brossard , we are installing a Sharp ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump on a single-family home with beige vinyl siding . The project is taking place in a narrow side yard, with a paver patio , a sliding window nearby, and a BBQ propane tank . Our goal: to deliver an exemplary HVAC installation that is stable over time, perfectly integrated into the building, and easy to maintain.

The context and the client's expectations

The owner wanted:

  • Four-season comfort in the main living area and adjacent bedroom;

  • Lower operating costs compared to electrical backup;

  • A silent and aesthetic solution, without harming openings and access;

  • An assembly compatible with subsidies and RBQ/CSA requirements.

After a thermal load analysis and technical visit, we selected a Sharp ZU1 - an R-32 wall -mounted inverter compressor , appreciated for its stability in heating in cold weather and its acoustic discretion . The ZU1 range offers the usual capacities (9k to 24k BTU) allowing the power to be precisely adapted to the actual needs of the house.

Choice of location: safety, clearances and maintenance

We position the condenser:

  • On a raised aluminum support (four-post base) placed on the paving stones. This raised surface reduces dust extraction, protects against rain puddles and facilitates drainage during winter defrosting.

  • At a suitable distance from the window and decorative railings , to preserve air recirculation and maintain easy access to the filters and the external battery.

  • Away from the propane tank (BBQ use) to respect the recommended clearances and avoid any direct blowing on the bottle.

The connection descent is carried out in a vertical white cover harmonized with the vinyl, from the secondary roof line to the condenser. The external electrical disconnect switch is installed on the wall, accessible and clear, to allow a quick disconnection during maintenance operations.

Refrigerated and electric finishing: what makes the difference

  • Refrigeration piping : careful bends to the prescribed radius, high-density closed-cell insulation , protected flared fittings, UV tape and stainless steel clamps to prevent premature hardening.

  • Airtightness : sealing of holes with air barrier mastic ; inside, a clean cable gland prevents any infiltration and eliminates thermal bridges.

  • Condensate management : gravity line towards the drainage area at the base of the wall, away from the paving joints to limit localized freezing.

  • Instrumented commissioning : deep vacuum , leak test , load adjustment according to the actual length of the connections, pressure and temperature readings recorded in the customer file.

The value of the Sharp ZU1 in a Montreal climate

The Sharp ZU1 ( R-32 refrigerant) is a balanced heating/air conditioning solution for Greater Montreal :

  • Extended modulation thanks to the inverter: the machine finely adjusts its power, producing a soft and stable breath ;

  • High seasonal efficiency , favorable to subsidies when approval criteria are met;

  • Controlled acoustics : silent condenser outside, sound comfort in the living room and bedroom;

  • Air quality : the Ion Plasmacluster technology of the indoor units helps to limit certain odors and keep the exchanger clean for longer (a plus for maintenance).

Installation details visible on the facade

  • Raised support independent of the wall: reduces vibrations transmitted to the structure; silent blocks under the chassis.

  • White cover aligns the connections to the vertical joint of the covering , for a clear visual reading.

  • Secure bottom clearance : the base remains free for maintenance and drainage.

  • Disconnector positioned between the window and the duct, at ergonomic height , in line with the unit.

  • Short internal path to the wall head, limiting the total length of the connections and pressure losses .

Results: immediate comfort and optimized bill

Upon commissioning, the customer notes:

  • Remarkable temperature stability in the living room;

  • Effective dehumidification in summer, which makes the lower setpoint unnecessary;

  • An expected reduction in consumption compared to electric baseboards, particularly in mid-season , when the ZU1 operates in modulation.

AirGreen Best Practices for Sustainable Wall Installation

  1. Height and Clearances : Maintain space under the unit for water drainage and provide a clear defrost path.

  2. UV and shock protection : full cover, stainless steel collars, smooth edge passages to prevent wear of the insulation.

  3. HVAC Maintenance : Occupant-maintained indoor filter; outdoors, gentle coil cleaning and annual inspection of connections.

  4. Acoustic comfort : torque tightening, silent blocks and vibration check after the first week of operation.

  5. Safety : respect clearances from heat sources (BBQ) and avoid any recirculation of hot air towards the condenser.

Grants and administrative support

High-efficiency wall-mounted heat pumps may be eligible for assistance depending on the configuration chosen and the criteria in force. We:

  • Let's check the eligibility of the chosen Sharp ZU1 ;

  • Let's take pictures of the nameplates (make, model, serial number);

  • We produce the necessary detailed invoices and certificates ;

  • We guide the client step by step until the file is submitted .

Recommended maintenance: maintain performance year after year

  • Interior : washing filters and checking condensation ; checking shutters and blowing .

  • Exterior : biannual inspection of the hood , tightening of fasteners , removal of leaves or debris in the fall.

  • Annually : visit by an AirGreen technician for leak tests , electrical measurements , parameter updates and usage advice .

What this achievement says about our approach

  • Rigorous planning (loading, clearances, aesthetics);

  • Controlled execution (deep vacuum, testing, documentation);

  • Finishing to match a neat residential project (aligned cladding, stable base, accessible disconnector);

  • Complete support (product choice, subsidies, maintenance).
