Installation of a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

In this lovely, bright apartment in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, the owners wanted to improve both their summer comfort and their energy efficiency in winter, without compromising the very clean aesthetic of the main room, which features a cathedral ceiling and recessed lighting.

We therefore recommended and installed a Gree wall-mounted heat pump , a discreet, efficient solution perfectly suited to the realities of Montreal's climate.

The project in brief

  • Location: Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, Montreal

  • System type: Wall-mounted heat pump (mini-split)

  • Brand: Gree

  • Model: Gree 12,000 BTU Wall-Mounted Heat Pump for Extreme Cold

  • Use: Air conditioning in summer, efficient heating in the shoulder seasons, and as a supplement to electric baseboard heaters in winter.

The objective was twofold:

  1. Providing 4-season comfort in a living area with a high ceiling, traditionally more difficult to heat and cool.

  2. Preserve the architectural signature of the room: clean lines, immaculate walls and minimalist recessed lighting.

Why a Gree wall-mounted heat pump in this Rosemont apartment?

The choice of a Gree wall-mounted system was made for several reasons:

1. Energy efficiency

Gree wall-mounted heat pumps are known for their high energy efficiency , which is particularly interesting for a neighbourhood like Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie where many homes are heated with electricity.

Result :

  • Reduction of energy consumption related to heating;

  • Very economical air conditioning during the hot days of July and August;

  • Lower electricity bills while increasing comfort.

2. Comfort in the Quebec climate

The chosen model is designed for the Nordic climate , with stable heating capacity even in very cold weather. This makes it an excellent complement to existing electric systems:

  • Efficient heating during autumn and spring;

  • Comfortable support during cold winter weather, reducing stress on baseboards;

  • More consistent temperature thanks to constant air circulation.

3. Silence and discretion

In this living room, quiet operation was also a priority. The Gree wall-mounted head offers a very low noise level, ideal for an open-plan space where people work, read, or watch television.

The white finish, rounded shape and chosen position make it almost invisible in the decor.

A cathedral ceiling: an air diffusion challenge

Cathedral ceilings are magnificent, but they present a challenge: hot air rises . Therefore, it was necessary to:

  • Position the unit strategically so that the blown air can sweep throughout the entire room .

  • Avoid direct drafts on the occupants,

  • Taking advantage of height for optimal air mixing .

We installed the wall-mounted light fixture in the center of the gable end , directly under the peak of the ceiling, aligned between the two recessed lights. This position:

  • Offers perfect visual symmetry and respects minimalist design;

  • Allows airflow to be distributed both downwards and towards the rest of the open area;

  • Optimizes operation in both heating and cooling modes.

The motorized louvers of the Gree heat pump then ensure the direction of the air: horizontal sweeping to cover the width of the room and vertical oscillation to distribute the heat or coolness from floor to ceiling.

Technical details of the installation

Although only the indoor unit appears in the photo, several technical choices have been made to guarantee a clean, durable and efficient result.

1. Passage of refrigerated lines

The refrigeration pipes, communication cables, and condensation drain were carefully routed behind the wall in order to:

  • Avoid visible cable trays in the main room;

  • Preserve the minimalist aesthetic of the white wall;

  • Protect the piping against shocks and temperature variations.

Outside, the lines are grouped together and protected in an insulated sheath adapted to Quebec winters.

2. Condensation Drain Management

In air conditioning mode, the heat pump produces condensation. Therefore, we have:

  • A gravity drain with an appropriate slope was installed.

  • Direct the drain towards a safe discharge point outside.

  • Checked the sealing and insulation to prevent any water infiltration.

This rigorous management ensures that no moisture will damage the walls or the floor.

3. Power supply

The Gree heat pump is connected to a dedicated circuit with a circuit breaker that complies with the Quebec Electrical Code.

Our certified technicians always ensure:

  • Of the correct wire gauge for the power of the device;

  • Regarding the conformity of electrical protections;

  • Proper grounding for the safety of occupants.

The result: comfort, aesthetics and energy savings

After commissioning, the owners quickly noticed tangible benefits:

  • Instant comfort : the room quickly reaches the desired temperature, without overheating near the ceiling or cold spots at floor level.

  • Visual ambiance remains intact : the Gree wall head, centered under the ceiling peak between the two recessed spotlights, blends perfectly into the decor.

  • Lower bills : thanks to the highly efficient operation of the heat pump, electric baseboard heaters are used much less.

This installation clearly illustrates how a well-sized and well-positioned Gree wall-mounted heat pump can transform the comfort of a Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie home while respecting the interior architecture.
