In this lovely apartment in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood, the owners were looking for a heating and cooling solution that would complement the aesthetics of their open-concept kitchen while providing year-round comfort. They called on us to install a Gree wall-mounted heat pump , capable of delivering both cooling in the summer and efficient heating in the winter.
Context: a bright kitchen, a central living space
The main room in this accommodation is a large open-plan kitchen that connects to the rest of the living area:
-
large windows overlooking greenery;
-
central island heavily used on a daily basis;
-
pendant lights;
-
exposed wooden beam;
-
plenty of storage and kitchen appliances.
It's a very busy living space, where people cook, eat, work, and entertain guests. The temperature therefore needed to be stable, comfortable, and quiet , without unpleasant drafts or bulky appliances on the floor.
Our challenge: to find the perfect location for the wall-mounted head, taking into account the beam, the pendant light and the windows, while ensuring excellent air circulation in the open area.
Choosing the Gree wall-mounted heat pump
For this project, we recommended a Gree 12,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump , a recent single-zone unit operating on R-32 refrigerant, ideal for a medium-sized open area like this ground floor.
Why Gree for this client?
-
Heating performance : the chosen Gree heat pump offers reliable heating capacity even in the extreme cold of Quebec, around −25 °C.
-
Energy efficiency : its inverter compressor allows continuous power adjustment, resulting in savings on the electricity bill compared to baseboard heaters or a simple air conditioner.
-
Quiet operation : the reduced noise level of the internal head is perfect for a kitchen where people talk, work and entertain.
-
Reliability and parts available in Quebec : Gree is a recognized and well-established brand, which simplifies maintenance and after-sales service.
Installation of the wall-mounted head unit in the kitchen
We installed the Gree wall light high up, centered on the wall between the openings, just below the ceiling and set back from the pendant light:
-
Optimized window spacing to avoid condensation and energy loss.
-
Adequate clearance of the exposed beam so as not to obstruct airflow.
-
Positioning that allows air to circulate around the island, cooking area and dining area without blowing directly on the occupants.
All communication cables, the condensation drain, and refrigerant lines exit directly to the outside behind the unit. Inside, there are no visible ducts : the wall remains clean, in keeping with the minimalist style of the kitchen.
During the work, we protected the work surfaces, moved sensitive objects, and used a compact stepladder to minimize the site's footprint. Upon completion, everything was put back in place and the system was activated in front of the homeowners.
External condenser: performance and discretion
Outside, the Gree condenser was installed on wall brackets, slightly raised off the ground:
-
sufficient clearance for air circulation;
-
safe height for snow and snow removal;
-
anti-vibration pads to reduce the transmission of noise and vibrations to the structure.
A dedicated external circuit breaker allows for quick isolation of the unit during maintenance. The refrigerant lines are protected in a rigid cover (line-set cover) that matches the front panel, ensuring a neat and durable finish.
Comfort achieved in the open area
From the moment it was switched on, the owners noticed several improvements:
-
In summer : the kitchen stays cool even when the oven and hob are in use. The cool air quickly circulates to the rest of the living area.
-
In mid-season : the heat pump takes over from the electric baseboard heaters, providing gentle and even heating without drying out the air.
-
In winter : the Gree provides stable heating , limiting the temperature variations typical of old buildings on the Plateau.
Thanks to the "dehumidification" mode and precise temperature control, comfort is significantly improved, particularly on the hot and humid days that Montreal is experiencing more and more often.
Energy savings and intelligent control
The Gree wall-mounted heat pump installed here allows the occupants to:
-
reduce electricity consumption related to heating;
-
benefit from high SEER and HSPF , synonymous with superior performance;
-
control the temperature precisely in their main living room, where they spend the most time.
The system is compatible with advanced control options (infrared remote control, timer, eco modes), and can be integrated into a more comprehensive home comfort management system.
AirGreen Maintenance and Service
As with all our installations, we have:
-
explained to the owners the regular cleaning of the wall-mounted head filters ;
-
recommended periodic professional maintenance (deep cleaning of the turbine, checking of pressures and electrical connections);
-
handed over the Gree heat pump documentation and warranty information.
If needed, our service team is available for monitoring, diagnostics and preventative maintenance to extend the life of the device and preserve its energy performance.
