Installation of a Midea wall-mounted heat pump in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

A modern HVAC solution for optimal comfort in a Montreal condo

In this project located in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve , we installed a new generation Midea wall-mounted heat pump (R-32/R-454B refrigerant) . This equipment was chosen to meet the needs of a condo owner looking for an energy-efficient, compact solution perfectly suited to Montreal's harsh winters .

Project background

The property, typical of the area, is located in a small building with limited indoor and outdoor space. The client was looking for a quiet, high-performance unit capable of providing reliable heating down to -30°C , while also ensuring pleasant air conditioning in summer.

The Midea wall-mounted heat pump was the ideal option thanks to its discreet design and high energy efficiency, meeting the criteria of the grant programs offered in Quebec.

Key steps of installation

Strategic positioning of the indoor unit

The wall unit was installed near the ceiling, in an optimized corner of the living room , allowing for even air diffusion. This placement choice maximizes occupant comfort while limiting the visual impact of the unit.

The unit is securely fixed to the wall at a precise angle to facilitate gravity drainage of condensate, thus avoiding the addition of a lifting pump.

Passage of refrigerant connections

The pipes were routed directly through the exterior wall with discreet capping matching the wall colour , ensuring a clean and aesthetic finish.
Since the distance between the indoor unit and the outdoor compressor is reduced, energy losses are minimized, contributing to better overall efficiency.

Installation of the outdoor unit

Although not visible in the photo, the Midea compressor was mounted on wall brackets adapted to Montreal winters , with optimal clearance to ensure air circulation and facilitate maintenance. A retention tray with snow guard was also installed to prevent any problems related to ice accumulation.

Technical advantages of the Midea heat pump

  • Heating efficiency : optimal performance even at very low temperatures (down to −30°C).

  • Eco-responsibility : use of the new R-454B refrigerant, significantly reducing the carbon footprint compared to R-410A.

  • Versatility : Available in several capacities (9,000 to 33,000 BTU), perfectly suited to condos and single-family homes.

  • Grants : eligible for financial assistance programs such as Hydro-Québec's LogisVert and the federal government's Maisons Plus Vertes .

  • Discreet design : a compact format that blends harmoniously into any interior.

Challenges and solutions on this site

  1. Limited space : The wall installation had to be carried out in a tight corner, requiring precise adjustment of the metal bracket and a calculated installation angle to comply with drainage standards.

  2. Energy optimization : the route of the connections has been designed to be as short as possible, reducing consumption and increasing the sustainability of the system.

Thanks to these adjustments, we were able to deliver a high-performance and durable system, while respecting the aesthetic and technical constraints of the location.
