Installation of a Fujitsu multi-zone wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

In Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, flat-roofed plexes are plentiful… and so are their comfort needs. On this project, we installed a Fujitsu multi-zone wall-mounted heat pump to provide reliable heating in the depths of Montreal winter and efficient air conditioning throughout the summer, all with a minimal visual impact on the facade.

Context: a typical Montreal duplex, with a flat roof

The building is a typical residential building for the area: flat roof, rear access, little floor space and a clear desire on the part of the owner to free up the courtyard and facades .

We therefore opted for installing the outdoor unit directly on the roof , a very common solution in Montreal when you want to:

  • preserve the aesthetics of the courtyard;

  • limit the noise at the level of the neighbors' windows;

  • protect the equipment from shocks, vandalism and snow deposits on the ground.

The system choice: a Fujitsu multi-zone wall-mounted heat pump

The client wanted to supply heat to several rooms with a single system: living room, bedrooms, and possibly a home office. The ideal solution: a Fujitsu multi-zone wall-mounted heat pump , capable of managing several indoor units from a single outdoor compressor.

We have selected a Fujitsu multi-zone outdoor unit from the Aquila XLTH R32 range , designed for:

  • operate efficiently down to approximately −26 °C ;

  • to offer very good energy efficiency in both heating and air conditioning;

  • reduce energy consumption compared to electric baseboard heaters or an old window air conditioner.

This type of heat pump is perfectly suited to Montreal homes that want 4-season comfort , without multiplying outdoor units on balconies or walls.

A compact and discreet outdoor unit on the roof

The photo clearly shows the large heat exchange surface of the Fujitsu outdoor unit, protected by a grille. This design allows for:

  • excellent air circulation;

  • faster defrosting in winter;

  • quieter operation for the neighborhood.

The unit is installed:

  • on raised supports to protect it from water and snow that accumulate on the roof;

  • on anti-vibration pads , to reduce vibrations transmitted to the building structure;

  • with clearances respected all around to ensure good air circulation, essential to the performance and longevity of the compressor.

Management of refrigeration and electricity connections

From this Fujitsu outdoor unit, we fired:

  • the refrigeration lines to the different wall heads, protecting them with aesthetic and UV-resistant covers;

  • communication and power cabling , routed safely, in accordance with the Electrical Code, with a dedicated circuit breaker;

  • adequate drainage for the removal of condensate, in order to prevent any water infiltration into the building.

On a roof, planning is crucial: we must avoid areas of water stagnation, future obstacles (snow removal, roof maintenance) and optimize the routing of pipes to limit pressure losses and the risk of leaks.

Four-season comfort for occupants

Thanks to this Fujitsu multi-zone wall-mounted heat pump, the occupants now benefit from:

  • Efficient heating in winter : even in very cold weather, the machine continues to provide heat without relying solely on electric baseboard heaters.

  • Gentle and uniform air conditioning in summer : wall-mounted heads distributed throughout the rooms ensure a consistent temperature, without unpleasant drafts.

  • Room-by-room control : each zone can be adjusted according to use – cooler in the bedroom for sleeping, warmer in the living room, etc.

  • Energy savings : Inverter compressor technology continuously adjusts power according to actual demand, reducing consumption compared to an on/off system.

Adapted to the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie neighbourhood

Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie is an area with many duplexes, flat roofs, and stacked apartments. In this context, a Fujitsu multi-zone wall-mounted heat pump is ideal.

  • limits the clutter on balconies and alleyways;

  • reduces the number of visible outdoor units;

  • It integrates easily into energy renovations or projects with assistance programs (Hydro-Québec, LogisVert, etc., depending on the case).

This is an ideal solution for owners who want to increase the value of their building , improve the comfort of their tenants and reduce their energy costs .

Our AirGreen approach to this project

On this Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie project, our team took charge of:

  • analyzing heating and cooling needs to correctly size the Fujitsu heat pump;

  • structural verification of the chosen roof area;

  • coordination with the client for access to the roof and accommodations;

  • a complete commissioning (pressure tests, vacuum gauge, refrigerant charge, verification of heating/air conditioning modes);

  • explanations to the customer on the optimal use of the system and basic maintenance.

As always, we work with a view to a long-term partnership : careful installation today, technical support and after-sales service for years to come.
