Installation of a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump in Brossard

In this project in Brossard , we were commissioned to improve the comfort of a modern family condo by installing aSharp wall-mounted heat pump in the hallway serving several rooms. The photo clearly shows the indoor unit installed high above the passageway between the bedrooms, with the ladder still in place at the end of the installation.

Context: a family condo on the South Shore

The dwelling is typical of recent constructions in Brossard:

  • Floating wood flooring ,

  • Light-colored walls and white molded doors,

  • Compact but well-compartmentalized rooms: bedrooms, office, bathroom.

On the left, we can see a room used as a baby's room with a crib, changing table, and floor lamp. As is often the case in this type of layout, the central corridor becomes a strategic location for air distribution.

  • The rooms tend to overheat in the summer , especially on the sunny side.

  • In winter, warm air does not always circulate well into closed rooms.

  • The occupants wanted a quiet, energy-efficient solution capable of providing both heating and air conditioning.

We therefore proposed a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump , installed precisely in that location to supply several rooms from a single unit .

Choosing the Sharp ZHU1 12,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump

For this project, we opted for a Sharp ZHU1 series wall-mounted heat pump, 12,000 BTU , a compact yet powerful model, perfectly suited to cover:

  • The two rooms connected to the corridor,

  • The office or multipurpose room in the background,

  • Part of the adjoining living area when the doors remain open.

Why a wall-mounted heat pump rather than a simple air conditioner?

We recommended a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump rather than a traditional wall-mounted air conditioner for several reasons:

  • 4-season comfort : the heat pump provides cooling in summer and heating in mid-season and winter.

  • Energy efficiency : in heating mode, it consumes much less than electric baseboard heaters for the same amount of heat.

  • Installation flexibility : no central ventilation duct is required, ideal for an existing condo.

  • Reliable Sharp technology : high-performance compressor, stable electronics, excellent performance/noise ratio.

The Sharp ZHU1 series is designed to deliver good performance even in cold weather, which is essential on Montreal's South Shore, where temperatures can drop rapidly in winter.

Positioning down to the millimeter in the corridor

The Sharp indoor unit, clearly visible in the photo, is installed above the doorway in the hallway leading to the rooms. This choice combines three objectives: efficiency, air circulation, and aesthetics.

1. Air distribution to multiple rooms

High up, in the center of the corridor, the heat pump can:

  • Blowing fresh or warm air into the hallway,

  • Allow air to circulate naturally towards the bedrooms and office when the doors are open.

  • Create a sort of "buffer zone" between the different rooms, which limits temperature contrasts.

For a young family, this means:

  • A baby's room with a stable temperature , avoiding nights that are too hot or too cold.

  • A comfortable office for teleworking.

  • Fewer conflicts over thermostat settings thanks to a more uniform temperature.

2. Compliance with clearances and safety

The installation complies with the clearances recommended by Sharp:

  • Sufficient space above the unit for air intake,

  • Clearance under the unit to ensure that airflow is not blocked by the opening or doors.

  • Secure fixing in the wall structure, verified by the ladder still present at the time of the photo.

The result: smooth airflow , without unnecessary turbulence or direct airflow onto occupants as they move through the corridor.

3. Discrete Integration

Visually, the white Sharp wall-mounted heat pump blends in with the moldings and doors. In a condo where every square meter counts, we ensure that the unit:

  • Does not obstruct the full opening of the doors.

  • It should not be at head height.

  • It remains discreet , almost blending in with the top of the door frame.

Technical details of the installation

Although the photo mainly shows the interior, several important technical elements are hidden behind this installation.

Refrigeration connections and condensation drain

The refrigerant pipes , communication cable, and condensate drain pass through the load-bearing wall to connect to the Sharp outdoor unit. We:

  • Let's protect the connections in a discreet, external technical enclosure .

  • Let's ensure a sufficient slope for the drain, preventing any risk of leaks inside.

  • Properly insulate the refrigeration circuit to preserve energy efficiency and prevent condensation on the pipes.

Sharp ZHU1 compatible external condenser

Outside, the Sharp compressor from the ZHU1 range is installed on anti-vibration mounts , either on a concrete slab or on wall brackets, depending on the configuration of the balcony or facade. We check:

  • The necessary clearances at the rear and sides,

  • Good air circulation, even in winter when there is snow accumulation.

  • Limiting noise for the condo's neighbors.

Dedicated power supply

A wall-mounted heat pump of this type requires a dedicated electrical circuit , protected by a suitable circuit breaker. Our teams coordinate:

  • The routing of the wiring to the electrical panel,

  • The installation of a circuit breaker that complies with the Quebec Electrical Code ,

  • Voltage and communication tests between the indoor and outdoor units.

Results for occupants: comfort, quietness and savings

Once the installation is complete and the tests have been carried out, we always conduct a detailed commissioning with the owners.

For this family from Brossard, the benefits are immediate:

  • Consistent temperature in the corridor and rooms , ideal for a baby.

  • Efficient air conditioning in summer , without excessive noise, which allows the bedroom doors to be kept open at night.

  • Heating that is more economical than electric baseboard heaters for the cold and mid-seasons.

  • Dehumidification mode is convenient during hot and humid days, which are very common in the Montreal area.

The Sharp ZHU1 heat pump also stands out for its quiet operation , an important point in a narrow corridor where sound could easily reverberate.

AirGreen support: from submission to maintenance

At AirGreen , we don't just sell devices: we support our clients at every stage of the project.

For this installation in Brossard, our approach was as follows:

  1. Needs analysis : number of rooms to be served, presence of a baby, condo constraints.

  2. Sizing and selection of the Sharp model : choosing a capacity of 12,000 BTU for an optimal balance between comfort and consumption.

  3. Installation planning : routing of pipes, location of the wall head, choice of location for the outdoor condenser.

  4. Clean and safe installation : floor protection, controlled drilling, verification of sealing and pressures.

  5. Explanations to the customer : operation of the modes (heating, air conditioning, auto, dehumidification), instructions for filter maintenance, advice for use in winter.

We also offer maintenance and repair services on Sharp wall-mounted heat pumps throughout the South Shore, in Montreal, Laval, and on the North and South Shores.
