In this lovely condo in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood, our AirGreen team was tasked with modernizing the comfort of a frequently used kitchen, which faces a typical Montreal brick façade. The owners' objective: to enjoy reliable heating in winter and efficient air conditioning in summer, while freeing up floor space and preserving the room's aesthetics.

The context: a condo kitchen in the heart of the Plateau
The apartment is located in a classic brick building in the Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood, with relatively narrow rooms and walls that open directly onto the exterior. The kitchen, the heart of the occupants' daily lives, presents several challenges:

An exterior wall largely occupied by a casement window ;

Wall cabinets on both sides, leaving little room for a bulky appliance;

A limited circulation space, where every centimeter of ground space counts;

In this context, a traditional floor-standing heating/cooling solution or one requiring a large ventilation duct would have been difficult to integrate. The Sharp wall-mounted heat pump emerged as the ideal solution.

For this project, we selected a Sharp ZU1 12,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump , a latest generation device operating with R-32 refrigerant , known for its better energy efficiency and reduced environmental impact compared to older refrigerants.

Optimal air distribution
Mounted high up, the Sharp wall-mounted heat pump blows conditioned air throughout the kitchen and, through an opening, into the adjacent area (dining room or living room). This limits cold or hot spots and improves the feeling of comfort. -
Discreet routing of refrigeration lines
The refrigerant lines, condensate drain, and electrical wiring were routed directly outside through the brick wall on the right side of the unit and then concealed within a discreet white conduit. The result: no unsightly exposed ductwork in the kitchen. -
Efficient condensate management
Gravity drainage has been integrated into the wall to direct condensation outside, even when the air conditioning is running on hot, humid days. This eliminates any risk of dripping or water seeping in near the window. -
Respect for cupboards and storage
The installation was designed so as not to block any storage space: the cabinets and shelves remain fully accessible, and the device does not block doors or drawers.
Outdoor unit optimized for the Montreal climate
Outside, the Sharp compressor corresponding to the ZU1 wall-mounted heat pump was installed on the brick facade, on the courtyard side, in order to:

Minimize the noise perceived both inside and by the neighbors;

Place it at a safe height relative to the snow level ;
-
Ensure sufficient clearance to guarantee good air circulation in both winter and summer.
The wall bracket is equipped with anti-vibration pads , reducing vibrations and structural noise. Particular attention has been paid to the clearance around the unit to facilitate annual maintenance, which is essential to preserving the performance and longevity of the Sharp heat pump.
