Installation of a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump in Southwest Montreal

In a typical brick home in Southwest Montreal , our team recently installed aSharp wall-mounted heat pump , model Sharp TU 12,000 BTU . The goal: to provide year-round comfort in a compact space, while respecting the specific configuration of the walls and openings to the outside.

The context: urban housing, with real constraints.

The apartment is located on the ground floor of a residential building in the southwest, with a direct view of a red brick wall. As with many apartments in the area, it includes:

  • Exterior brick walls with little open space.

  • A dark-framed window located quite high, close to the ceiling.

  • A small recess in the ceiling that creates a sort of structural beam or box.

Our challenge was to find a strategic location for the wall-mounted heat pump , capable of:

  1. Ensure good air circulation in the room.

  2. Limit the visual impact of the device.

  3. Simplify the passage of pipes and drain to the outside.

Why a Sharp TU wall-mounted heat pump?

At AirGreen, we work with several brands, but in this project, the Sharp range perfectly met the client's needs:

  • 4-season heat pump function : the unit provides air conditioning in summer and efficient heating for much of the winter.

  • Inverter technology : the power is continuously adjusted, increasing comfort while reducing electricity consumption.

  • Very low noise level , both inside and outside, a crucial point in a dense area like the Southwest.

  • Modern and sleek design, which blends well into a minimalist decor.

The Sharp TU 12,000 BTU is a sensible choice for a medium-sized main room: living room, dining room, or open-plan kitchen. This capacity allows for efficient air conditioning of the living area while also providing supplemental heating during colder periods.

A well-considered positioning: high up, above the window

The photo clearly shows the installed Sharp indoor unit:

  • Very close to the ceiling , under a box or a beam.

  • Directly above the window overlooking the exterior brickwork .

This positioning offers several advantages.

1. Optimized airflow

By installing the heat pump at a height:

  • Fresh or warm air is blown into the room below , then circulates naturally throughout the space.

  • The lateral position, close to a corner of the room, allows the air to spread along the walls before descending, which reduces temperature differences.

The motorized flap of the Sharp TU allows the airflow to be directed precisely , avoiding blowing directly on the occupants while covering a maximum surface area.

2. Intelligent use of the exterior wall

The unit is fixed to a wall directly adjacent to the brick facade visible through the window. For us, this means:

  • A very short route for the refrigeration lines and the condensation drain, which limits pressure losses and facilitates maintenance.

  • A discreet opening to the outside, usually hidden by a decorative cover of the same color as the brick or cladding.

The less distance there is between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit, the more efficient, durable and aesthetically pleasing the installation.

3. Aesthetic integration

By choosing a high corner, the heat pump:

  • Do not encroach on walls that can be used for furniture or picture frames.

  • It follows the line of the ceiling and the coffer, which gives an impression of continuity and architectural integration .

  • It remains relatively discreet for a device of this size, especially with its white finish.

The technical aspects of the installation

Although the photo highlights the indoor unit, our work doesn't end there. Every AirGreen installation follows a rigorous protocol.

Drilling and routing of conduits

Behind the Sharp wall-mounted heat pump:

  • We create a slightly inclined opening towards the outside to allow gravity drainage of the condensate.

  • The insulated copper pipes, power/communication cable and drain are bundled together in a neat, securely fastened bundle.

Outside, this bundle is protected in a rigid conduit (line-set cover) resistant to sun, wind, rain and snow.

Condensate management

Air conditioning generates condensation. In this project:

  • The drain is configured to exit directly to the outside , which avoids the use of a condensate pump, which is often noisier and more fragile.

  • We ensure that the drain pipe is well insulated and protected against freezing , in order to avoid blockages and risks of infiltration.

Installation of the Sharp outdoor unit

The outdoor unit, installed on the brick side, is:

  • Positioned on solid supports , with vibration dampers to limit structural noise.

  • Placed at a safe height to account for snow accumulation, while remaining accessible for maintenance.

The result: a reliable, quiet and efficient system, adapted to the climatic reality of Southwest Montreal.

Year-round comfort and energy savings

Thanks to this installation of a Sharp TU 12,000 BTU wall-mounted heat pump , the customer now benefits from:

  • With efficient air conditioning in summer , ideal for hot days when the brick absorbs and releases heat.

  • A very efficient supplementary heater during autumn, spring and much of winter, relieving the electric baseboard heaters.

  • Improved air quality , thanks to the unit's filters and constant air circulation.

From an energy standpoint, a heat pump consumes significantly less electricity to produce the same amount of heat as a purely electric heating system. It's a winning choice in the long run, both for your Hydro-Québec bill and for everyday comfort.

The AirGreen approach in the Southwest and throughout Greater Montreal

In neighborhoods like Le Sud-Ouest , where housing is often compact, with brick walls, staggered windows, and structural constraints, it is essential to:

  • Carefully analyze the room , air circulation and orientation.

  • Choose the right capacity (BTU) and the right heat pump model.

  • Design the shortest and most discreet conduit passage possible .

That's exactly what we do at AirGreen. We don't just install a heat pump: we design a complete solution , tailored to your specific situation and that of your building.
