Sharp wall-mounted heat pump installation in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

In Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, a typical Montreal neighborhood of duplexes, our team recently installed aSharp wall-mounted heat pump in a residential unit. The client wanted a quiet system that performed well in both heating and cooling, while remaining discreet and well-integrated into their interior.

We recommended the installation of a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump, model ZU1 of 12,000 BTU , a solution perfectly suited to medium-sized rooms and the climate of Montreal, with excellent energy efficiency and reliable operation even in the worst of Quebec's cold weather.

Project context in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

The apartment is located in a typical Rosemont building, with relatively low ceilings and drywall partitions. The client's main objective:

  • improve summer comfort by putting an end to unbearable heat waves;

  • reduce reliance on electric baseboard heaters in winter;

  • benefit from a modern, quiet and aesthetically pleasing device;

  • control the temperature precisely in the main living room.

The available wall space was limited, which led us to a compact wall unit , installed high up, near the ceiling, to maximize air circulation without cluttering the room.

Why choose a Sharp wall-mounted heat pump?

Energy efficiency and savings

Sharp wall-mounted heat pumps are distinguished by their excellent energy efficiency. The ZU1 model, using R-32 refrigerant, offers:

  • to provide air conditioning in summer with reduced electricity consumption;

  • to heat efficiently during the shoulder seasons and in winter , especially during the frequent cold periods in Montreal;

  • to reduce the electricity bill compared to traditional 100% electric heating (baseboard heaters, convectors, etc.).

For this project, the 12,000 BTU capacity is ideal for covering the main living area, while offering a comfortable margin for both air conditioning and heating.

Acoustic comfort and air quality

The customer insisted on the need for a very quiet device. The Sharp wall-mounted head perfectly meets this requirement:

  • very low noise level at reduced speed, ideal for evening or night;

  • gentle airflow, without aggressive drafts;

  • Motorized shutters allow air to be directed both towards the back of the room and downwards to avoid blowing directly on the occupants.

The integrated filters also help to improve indoor air quality by trapping dust and particles.

Technical details of the installation

Wall-mounted head positioning

In the photo, you can see the Sharp wall-mounted head installed very close to the ceiling on a light-colored wall, making it discreet and well integrated into the decor. This positioning was not chosen at random:

  • The height allows fresh or warm air to diffuse evenly throughout the room;

  • the unit remains away from direct heat sources and obstacles (doors, tall furniture, etc.);

  • Access for maintenance and cleaning of the filters remains simple thanks to the clearance under the device.

We also took care to respect the clearances recommended by the manufacturer around the unit, in order to optimize the performance and longevity of the system.

Passage of refrigeration lines and the drain

Even though the ducts are not visible in the photo, the installation includes:

  • a clean hole in the wall behind the wall head;

  • the passage of the refrigeration lines to the outdoor unit (installed on the courtyard or balcony side, depending on the building configuration);

  • a gravity condensate drain , with a regular slope, evacuating condensation water to the outside to avoid any risk of infiltration or staining on the interior wall;

  • white cable trays on the outside to camouflage the refrigerant lines and protect the pipes from the elements.

Everything is designed to be both functional and aesthetic , which is particularly important in a neighborhood like Rosemont where interventions often have to deal with visible facades and municipal regulations.

Electrical connection and safety

The Sharp heat pump is powered by a dedicated circuit, protected in the electrical panel according to current standards. Our technicians always ensure that:

  • check the panel's capacity;

  • install the appropriate circuit breaker;

  • comply with grounding and protection requirements.

This rigor ensures safe use and full compliance with Quebec electrical standards.

Performance in Montreal's winter

In Montreal, a heat pump must be able to withstand harsh winters . The chosen Sharp model offers:

  • maintaining its heating capacity at negative temperatures;

  • automatic defrosting of the outdoor unit to prevent ice buildup;

  • stable and efficient operation even during prolonged cold weather.

In this project, the heat pump acts as the primary air conditioning system and as a supplementary or primary heating system depending on the outside temperature , complementing the existing baseboard heaters. This allows the client to prioritize the heat pump to reduce their energy bill while maintaining heating redundancy.

Result for the client

A few days after installation, the client shared their initial impressions with us:

  • the room is much more comfortable, both on cooler evenings and during hot days;

  • The device is very discreet visually , blending into the white wall;

  • the noise level is minimal , even when the heat pump is running continuously;

  • The remote control and automatic mode make it easy to use, without complex settings.
