Installation of Gree multi-zone heat pumps in a condo building in Brossard

In Brossard, more and more condominiums are looking for heating and cooling solutions that combine performance, reliability, and seamless integration with the building. In this project, our AirGreen team installed Gree multi-zone heat pumps for several condo units, with the condensers neatly installed in the building's indoor parking garage.

This approach protects the equipment from the elements while ensuring year-round comfort for each co-owner.

The context: a modern building on the South Shore

The building in question is a recent residential building, typical of Brossard : concrete structure, underground parking, constant car traffic and numerous condominium units spread over several floors.

The objectives of the condominium association and the occupants were clear:

  • to provide each condo with a high-performance heating and air conditioning system ;

  • limit noise and clutter outside the building;

  • protect equipment from snow accumulation, ice, and vandalism;

  • comply with safety and clearance standards in the indoor parking lot.

We recommended the installation of Gree multi-zone heat pumps , with condensers installed in the garage ceiling and wall heads inside each living unit.

System choice: Gree multi-zone heat pump

For this type of building, the Gree multi-zone heat pump stands out as a particularly attractive solution:

  • Recognized brand : Gree is one of the world's largest manufacturers of heat pumps, with proven reliability in North American climates.

  • Multizone : a single outdoor condenser supplies multiple wall heads in the condo (living room, bedrooms, office), providing room-by-room temperature control.

  • Energy efficiency : Inverter technology continuously adjusts power, reducing electricity consumption and extending the lifespan of components.

  • Winter performance : the installed models are designed to maintain a good level of heating even during the periods of sustained cold typical of the South Shore.

In this project, each condo is served by a Gree multi-zone unit of appropriate capacity (around 24,000 to 36,000 BTU depending on the needs), allowing coverage of all the main rooms without oversizing the system.

A condenser installation in the indoor parking lot

The most visible feature of this project is the positioning of the Gree condensers on the ceiling of the underground garage .

The photo shows several Gree units lined up and fixed under the concrete slab. This type of installation requires very rigorous design:

1. Robust mechanical fixings

We used:

  • certified mechanical anchors for concrete;

  • metal structures sized to support the weight of the condensers;

  • suspended supports to maintain a safe clearance height for vehicle passage.

Each unit is installed with sufficient clearance around it to ensure good air circulation.

2. Noise and vibration management

For indoor parking, acoustic comfort is essential:

  • addition of anti-vibration pads and suspensions to limit the transmission of vibrations to the structure;

  • arrangement of units in such a way as to minimize echo and noise perceived in passage areas;

  • modulating operation of Gree compressors, naturally quieter than a traditional on/off system.

Result: even when several heat pumps are operating at the same time, the noise level remains very controlled.

3. Condensation and frost management

During the heating season, heat pumps produce condensation and defrost water. In a garage, this water must be channeled away to prevent puddles and damage.

  • installation of nozzles and deflectors under the units in order to direct water towards the intended drainage areas;

  • adequate slope of drainage pipes;

  • materials resistant to moisture and salt sometimes found in underground car parks.

Connection to the condos: refrigeration lines and power supply

From each Gree condenser, insulated refrigerant lines run up to the upper floors to connect to the various wall-mounted units inside the condos. We ensure that:

  • limit the length of the pipes to maintain excellent energy performance ;

  • Insulate the pipes well to prevent losses and condensation;

  • follow discreet routes, often in technical ducts, to preserve the aesthetics of common areas.

From an electrical standpoint, each Gree multi-zone heat pump features:

  • from a dedicated circuit run to the electrical panel;

  • circuit breakers sized according to the power of the unit;

  • of a grounding system that complies with standards.

This approach ensures safety, reliability and ease of intervention in case of maintenance or troubleshooting.

Four-season comfort in every condo unit

Inside the homes, occupants benefit from Gree wall-mounted heads installed in strategic rooms: living room, bedrooms, sometimes office or family room.

The advantages for co-owners:

  • Pleasant heating in winter , without overly dry air or overheating;

  • Efficient air conditioning in summer , even during heat waves;

  • Room-by-room temperature control, which avoids unnecessarily heating or cooling unoccupied areas;

  • Quiet operation, ideal for teleworking, rest or studying.

By combining the high efficiency of Gree heat pumps and Hydro-Québec's pricing, co-owners benefit from significant energy savings compared to conventional electric heating or older, less efficient systems.

A project carried out in collaboration with the condominium association

In a project of this scale, coordination is paramount:

  • validation of the placement of the units with the condominium association ;

  • compliance with insurance and fire safety requirements;

  • planning of work to limit the impacts on traffic in the parking lot;

  • communication with the occupants to explain the operation of their new Gree multi-zone heat pumps.

At AirGreen, we take care of the entire process: from the feasibility study to commissioning, including basic training so that each co-owner uses their heat pump optimally.
