Behind the Scenes of a Successful Installation: A Complex Heating Project on the North Shore

A Custom Heating Challenge in a North Shore Home: Professionalism, Performance, and Comfort Delivered

As part of our ongoing mission to provide comfort, energy efficiency, and peace of mind to our residential clients, we were recently called in for a particularly complex heating installation on the North Shore of Montréal. This project allowed us to fully leverage our expertise in HVAC, our adaptability in the face of on-site challenges, and above all, our commitment to delivering a perfectly tailored solution for our customer.

A Heating Project Unlike Any Other

The client, the owner of a large intergenerational home located in Blainville, reached out to us after multiple frustrations with an outdated and ineffective central heating system. One of the main issues was the uneven heat distribution between the two floors, which caused constant discomfort for the occupants.

After a full analysis of the home's energy needs and architectural layout, we recommended installing a central forced-air system paired with a Bosch BOVA 36,000 BTU central heat pump (model BOVA-36HDN1-M20G), connected to a Bosch BVA-36WN1-M20 air handler, using the new eco-friendly R-454B refrigerant.

This technology choice stood out for several key reasons:

  • Outstanding energy efficiency, with a SEER rating over 20 and HSPF above 10.

  • Quiet operation, ideal for the harsh winter conditions of the North Shore.

  • Eligibility for rebates from Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert program, giving the client a $2,265 reimbursement—a substantial immediate savings.

Installation Steps: Real Field Expertise

Right from the start, we identified several major challenges that would require a precise and strategic approach:

1. Limited Access to the Mechanical Room

The mechanical room, located in a partially finished basement space, offered very limited clearance for maneuvering the new heat exchanger. We had to partially dismantle a drywall partition, install temporary supports, and bring in our heavy equipment specialist technician.

2. Rebalancing the Ventilation Ducts

The previous system delivered heat unevenly between the ground floor and the upper level. We redesigned part of the ductwork, adding motorized dampers and a multi-zone smart thermostat (Honeywell T10) to ensure consistent comfort in every room.

3. High-Capacity Electrical Integration

The new Bosch heat pump required a dedicated 40-amp circuit, which meant we had to upgrade the main electrical panel. Our certified electricians installed a high-voltage double breaker in full compliance with Québec’s building code regulations.

The Result: Instant Comfort, Long-Term Savings

From the moment the system was activated, the client was immediately satisfied. The indoor temperature stabilized within two hours, without excessive noise or uncomfortable fluctuations. Thanks to Bosch’s variable-speed inverter technology, electricity consumption dropped by 32% compared to the previous season, based on the initial readings from HydroSolution.

Today, the client enjoys:

  • Stable, personalized comfort by zone

  • A heating system that performs reliably even in -25°C conditions

  • Substantial savings on their electricity bill

  • Peace of mind with Bosch’s 10-year warranty and AirGreen’s maintenance plan

Practical Advice: What to Know Before Installing a Central Heat Pump

Check Your Electrical Panel

Many installations require a 200-amp electrical panel. Our teams always verify electrical capacity before proceeding.

Consider Outdoor Noise Levels

Even though newer models like Bosch are very quiet, we still recommend placing the outdoor unit away from bedrooms or patio areas.

Choose a Certified Installer

Rebate eligibility requires installation by a certified contractor. AirGreen is accredited by the RBQ, CETAF, and all LogisVert programs.
