Refurbishing a clogged device for restored performance
At AirGreen , we know that a well-maintained wall-mounted air conditioner is essential for consistent comfort and long-term energy efficiency. Recently, our team traveled to Sainte-Julie , on the South Shore, to perform a complete cleaning of an old wall-mounted air conditioner installed in a residential kitchen. After several years of use, the unit showed clear signs of dirt buildup and reduced performance.
The signs before our intervention
The customer had noticed:
-
a marked decrease in cooling power ;
-
an unpleasant smell every time it starts up ;
-
and an abnormal noise coming from the fan .
At first glance, the unit showed a significant accumulation of dust on the front panel , as well as traces of moisture on the adjacent wall—a typical sign of a partially blocked drain . These symptoms often indicate internal fouling, affecting the filters, evaporator fins, and condensate tray.
Inspection and diagnosis
As soon as the front panel was removed, our technicians confirmed:
-
filters saturated with fine particles ;
-
an evaporator covered with a greyish deposit limiting heat exchange;
-
and a nearly blocked drain , slowing the flow of condensation water.
These conditions not only reduce the efficiency of the air conditioner, but also promote the proliferation of microscopic molds, harming indoor air quality .
The AirGreen cleaning process
1. Preparation of the intervention area
We began by protecting the countertop, cabinets, and kitchen surfaces with waterproof tarpaulins. The air conditioner was then disconnected from the power supply to ensure complete safety during the process.
2. Disassembly and cleaning of components
The filters were carefully removed, soaked and washed in warm water with an environmentally friendly, biodegradable detergent .
The evaporator was then treated with a residue-free cleaning product , applied under pressure to dissolve the dirt embedded between the fins.
3. Degreasing and disinfection
The dust accumulated in the fan blades was removed using a soft brush and a HEPA vacuum cleaner . An antibacterial solution was then sprayed to neutralize any spores and bacteria present.
Finally, the drain was unblocked with a water pressure syringe to restore perfect flow.
4. Rinse and dry
All cleaned parts were rinsed and then dried with hot air. The hood, initially yellowed with age, was wiped and revived with a microfiber cloth dampened with mild cleaner.
5. Reassembly and final testing
Once the system was reassembled, we carried out a complete test : the airflow had regained its strength, the operating noise was significantly reduced, and the temperature was reached more quickly.
The customer immediately noticed the difference, both in terms of comfort and the freshness of the air being circulated .
The benefits of cleaning
Thoroughly cleaning a wall-mounted air conditioner offers several tangible benefits:
-
Improvement of indoor air quality ;
-
Optimizing energy efficiency , reducing electricity bills;
-
Extending the lifespan of the device;
-
Prevention of breakdowns due to fouling.
