Cleaning of a ComfortStar heat pump built into an under-deck installation in Saint-Laurent

A delicate intervention to revive a confined heat pump

At AirGreen , we were recently called out for an unusual intervention in Saint-Laurent , where a client was experiencing a significant drop in performance on their ComfortStar heat pump . The outdoor compressor, embedded under a wooden deck, was severely lacking ventilation and was accumulating dirt and debris, thus compromising the overall efficiency of the HVAC system.

Before our intervention: blocked ventilation and accumulated dirt

The outdoor unit was installed in a narrow opening under a terrace, near a brick wall. This type of installation, although sometimes chosen for aesthetic reasons, often presents problems with air circulation and accessibility.

At the time of our inspection:

  • The ventilation grille was clogged with dust and debris.

  • The top of the unit showed an accumulation of rust and organic residue .

  • The condenser fins were partially blocked, limiting heat exchange.

  • The customer also noticed an abnormal noise and a decrease in efficiency in air conditioning mode .

Our complete cleaning process

Our technicians carried out a meticulous intervention adapted to this confined environment:

  1. Partial removal of the deck boards to allow safe access to the unit.

  2. Gentle suction and blowing of the fins to remove dust without damaging them.

  3. Application of a biodegradable cleaner designed for aluminum and copper surfaces.

  4. Low-pressure rinsing to remove residues and ensure optimal heat exchange.

  5. Cleaning of the fan and the lower tray , where insects and particles had accumulated.

  6. Inspection of wiring and drain to ensure that no excessive moisture or corrosion compromises operation.

We then advised the client to leave at least 30 cm of free space around the unit , or ideally to move the heat pump slightly to allow for better future ventilation.

Result: restored efficiency and guaranteed safety

After cleaning, the heat pump immediately showed:

  • An improvement in airflow and a reduction in noise .

  • A more stable blowing temperature inside the dwelling.

  • A decrease in power consumption was observed on the control panel.

Our performance tests have confirmed a return to full cooling capacity , while ensuring a uniform temperature in the rooms served.
