Cleaning a wall-mounted heat pump in Rosemère

A mold-infested interior: when the air becomes a risk

At AirGreen , we were recently contacted by a family in Rosemère , on the North Shore, about a persistent odor problem coming from their wall-mounted heat pump . After inspection, the diagnosis was clear: significant mold and dirt were present on the fins and inside the unit. This type of situation, unfortunately common, can negatively impact not only the system's efficiency but also indoor air quality .

Observations before cleaning: visible mold and dirt accumulation

By removing the air direction flaps, we discovered:

  • The fan blades were clogged with black dust and fungal spores .

  • A sticky internal surface , a sign of grease and prolonged moisture.

  • An unpleasant odor , typical of a damp and poorly maintained environment.

  • Reduced airflow , causing uneven temperature distribution in the room.

The main cause: lack of complete annual maintenance . The filters had been superficially cleaned by the owner, but the inside of the turbine and evaporator had never been thoroughly cleaned since installation.

AirGreen Complete Cleaning Process

To restore comfort and safety to the home, we applied our complete professional cleaning procedure :

1. Dismantling and protecting the area

We carefully protected the walls and furniture with a waterproof wash sheet. The front panels and directional shutters were removed for full access to the inside of the unit.

2. Application of the eco-friendly cleaning product

A biodegradable cleaning product , free of corrosive agents, was sprayed on the fan coils and blades to dissolve grease, dust, and traces of mold. This product is specifically designed to protect plastic surfaces and neutralize bacteria .

3. Controlled high-pressure rinsing

Using our low-pressure washing equipment , we rinsed each internal component: evaporator, drain pan, fins, and turbine. The wastewater, laden with black grime, was collected in a sealed cleaning bag , ensuring a clean and safe working environment.

4. Drain cleaning and antibacterial treatment

The often-overlooked condensation drain was unblocked and treated with an antifungal disinfectant to prevent mold regrowth. A final antibacterial treatment was then applied to the entire system to eliminate any remaining germs.

5. Reassembly and performance testing

Once the interior was completely dry, we reassembled the components, cleaned the temperature sensor, and restarted the unit. The test demonstrated:

  • An airflow rate 30% higher .

  • A more stable temperature in the room.

  • A complete disappearance of odors .

The result: purified air and restored comfort

After the service, the client immediately noticed an improvement in air quality . The heat pump operated more quietly, and cooling was once again fast and even . This type of deep cleaning allows for:

  • Prevent the proliferation of molds that are dangerous to health.

  • Reduce energy consumption .

  • Extend the service life of the compressor and the ventilation motor .

The importance of annual preventative maintenance

A wall-mounted heat pump used year-round inevitably accumulates dust, moisture, and organic particles . Without regular maintenance, these deposits become a breeding ground for microorganisms. That's why at AirGreen, we recommend professional cleaning at least once a year , especially before the summer season.

Thanks to our recognized expertise in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and the South Shore , we offer complete maintenance services, adapted to all types of wall units, guaranteeing healthy air and optimal energy efficiency throughout the year.
