A complete overhaul to breathe new life into a clogged heat pump
At AirGreen , we were recently called by a client from Sainte-Julie , on Montreal's South Shore , to perform a complete cleaning of their Gree wall-mounted heat pump . This outdoor unit, installed in a small garden near a brick wall, showed clear signs of fouling after several seasons of use without maintenance.
Symptoms before our intervention
The client contacted us after noticing:
-
a noticeable decrease in airflow ,
-
unusual noises coming from the outdoor fan,
-
and a decrease in heating performance during colder days.
During the inspection, our technician noted:
-
a thick layer of dust and dirt on the fins of the outdoor heat exchanger,
-
a slight blackish deposit around the fan,
-
and plant debris (leaves, twigs) lodged in the base of the unit.
Our professional cleaning process
1. Preparation and protection
First and foremost, we secured the perimeter to protect the surrounding walls and plants. The unit was disconnected and partially disassembled to allow full access to the internal components .
2. Washing the fins and the fan
Using our low-pressure cleaning system, specially designed for HVAC heat pumps, we removed the accumulated dust deposits on the fins.
A biodegradable cleaner was then applied to dissolve the persistent grease and residue, while respecting the materials of the exchanger.
3. Cleaning the crankcase and drain
The crankcase was carefully washed with warm soapy water, then rinsed. We also checked the condensation drain , which is often clogged with dirt, to prevent any water backflow or risk of freezing in winter.
4. Fan inspection and final test
The fan was disassembled, cleaned, and balanced to ensure smooth rotation. After complete reassembly, we performed a full functional check : measuring pressure, airflow, and energy efficiency.
Results obtained
After the interview:
-
The airflow has been restored .
-
The operating noises have disappeared .
-
and the energy performance of the Gree heat pump has been significantly improved.
The customer immediately noticed that the expelled air was warmer and that the unit was operating more quietly.
Why regular cleaning is essential
Annual maintenance of your HVAC system is not a luxury, but a necessity. Dirt accumulated on the fins or fan can:
-
reduce energy efficiency by up to 30%
-
prematurely wear out the compressor ,
-
and promote the growth of molds that are harmful to air quality.
At AirGreen, we only use environmentally friendly products and procedures that comply with the manufacturer's recommendations to guarantee the durability of your devices.
AirGreen's expertise: a guarantee of trust
Our HVAC system maintenance and cleaning technicians serve all of Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, the North Shore, and the South Shore , offering fast, courteous, and meticulous service. Each intervention aims not only to restore your equipment's performance but also to extend its lifespan.
Final recommendation
To keep your Gree heat pump (or any other model) in perfect working order, we recommend:
-
a complete cleaning twice a year (spring and autumn),
-
an annual check of pressure and performance ,
-
and regular checks of the internal filters .
AirGreen remains your trusted partner for optimal comfort, summer and winter , and healthy indoor air.
