Why the disconnect? The answer lies in the gap between theoretical recommendations and real-world performance, after-sales support, parts availability, and how well the systems truly suit the needs of Québec homes.
Here are the 5 brands that come up the most in suggestions, online forums, and consumer guides, but that our clients almost always reject after a full evaluation of their HVAC project.
1. Daikin – A global giant… but poorly suited to our winter reality
Daikin often appears on lists of the world’s best heat pumps. But in Québec, its consumer-grade models come with several limitations:

Few models optimized for extreme temperatures (underperforms below -20 °C).

Parts are less accessible locally, causing repair delays.

Limited technical service, especially outside major urban areas.
📍 Client case in Laval: a family was torn between a Daikin and a Fujitsu Airstage for their 1,500 sq. ft. home. After comparing, the Daikin had a lower COP, wasn’t eligible for LogisVert, and had longer delivery times. Final choice: the Fujitsu KZAH R-32, reliable down to -26 °C and installed in 3 days.
2. Carrier – Riding on reputation, but inconsistent performance
Carrier has a strong historical reputation. But several of its consumer-grade models lag behind newer brands like Bosch or Gree when it comes to technical competitiveness:

5. York – Decent reliability, but limited service network in Québec
York is often featured in big-box store promotions. It inspires confidence… until you look closer:
