Add-on central heat pump: keep your furnace, add heating and air conditioning.
A coil on your furnace, a unit outside: the heat pump does most of the work and the furnace stays as backup in extreme cold. Gas, oil, propane or electric: see how it works, which grant applies and which model fits your home.
Your free in-home estimate
We come see your furnace, we measure, and you get a written quote within 24 h.
How does an add-on heat pump work? Move the thermometer.
An add-on heat pump shares the work with your furnace. Choose your energy, slide the temperature, tap the numbered points.
The heat pump captures heat from the outdoor air and delivers it to the coil. The furnace stays off; only its blower works.
It captures heat from the outdoor air in winter and rejects it in summer. The cold-climate models in our catalogue are rated down to -30 °C by their manufacturer.
Who handles it: AirGreenAdd-on heat pump on a gas, oil, propane or electric furnace: the grant is not the same.
Choose your heating energy. We tell you which grant to apply for, which electricity rate applies and the trap to avoid.
AirGreen: heat pump, coil, controls and electrical. A licensed partner: anything involving gas. Énergir: your file.
Rate D, Flex D or DT: our guideUp to $7,300 for a forced-air house or condo ($8,600 for a duplex, $9,100 for a triplex; $6,800 with Enbridge Gaz Québec). Total assistance cannot exceed 80% of costs.
Electricity does more than 70% of the heating according to Hydro-Québec: 5.131¢/kWh above -12 °C; gas takes over below.
Sign the contract with Énergir before installation and apply within 12 months. LogisVert is not added for the same heat pump.

Hydro-Québec rates in effect April 1, 2026. Switchover at -12 °C in most regions, -15 °C in some zones. Indicative amounts.

Each answer recalculates the result. The models suggested are from our catalogue, verified by their AHRI number.
Énergir dual-energy offer: up to $7,300 for a forced-air house or condo (total assistance max. 80% of costs). No LogisVert on top.
Indicative amount; only Hydro-Québec or Énergir confirm the grant. Models verified on ENERGY STAR on September 30, 2026. During the visit, we confirm your furnace’s width, its blower airflow, the outdoor unit location and your electrical panel.

Why the furnace takes over below -12 °C.
With gas, oil or propane backup, Rate DT changes the price per kWh with the temperature. Slide the thermometer.
Above the switchover, electricity on Rate DT costs 5.131¢/kWh, less than Rate D: that is where the heat pump works.
Hydro-Québec rates in effect April 1, 2026, excluding the fixed charge. With the gas dual-energy offer, Rate DT is mandatory for 10 years. Our full guide: Rate D, Flex D or DT .
HRV or ERV air exchanger: a home that heats better also needs to breathe.
An air exchanger replaces stale air with fresh air while keeping much of the heat. Choose the type and the season.
The HRV warms fresh air with the heat of the outgoing stale air, without mixing the two. It also helps remove excess humidity.
Good to know: it often connects to the furnace ductwork. If we install your add-on, that is the right time to talk about it. Neither LogisVert nor the dual-energy offer requires one.

Six common beliefs about add-ons and their grants.
Answer, and we’ll correct you with the source.
You have to replace your furnace to get a central heat pump.
You can combine LogisVert and Énergir’s grant for the same heat pump.
Chauffez vert still pays to get off oil.
On Rate DT, the furnace takes over on its own in extreme cold.
R-410A is banned in Canada.
Hydro-Québec may call you to offer LogisVert.
Add-on heat pump: frequently asked questions.

Keep your furnace. We add the rest, and we handle the paperwork.
We install the heat pump, the coil, the controls and the electrical. Any work on the gas, oil or propane part of your furnace is done by a partner holding the licence.

Frequently asked questions
What is an add-on central heat pump?
A heat pump whose indoor coil sits on your existing furnace, with an outdoor unit. The furnace keeps its blower and becomes the backup in extreme cold. You gain air conditioning and mostly electric heating.
Do I have to replace my furnace?
Not if it works well and its blower suits the heat pump’s airflow. We check this during the free estimate, along with the plenum width to choose the right coil.
My house is heated with gas: which grant?
The Hydro-Québec and Énergir dual-energy offer: up to $7,300 for a forced-air house or condo, total assistance capped at 80% of costs. It requires a contract with Énergir before installation and a 10-year commitment to Rate DT.
And with oil?
Chauffez vert (oil) closed on March 31, 2026, and the federal program on July 31, 2026. LogisVert remains possible according to Hydro-Québec’s FAQ: have your case confirmed at 1-833-396-1888. Rate DT accepts oil backup.
Can I combine LogisVert and Énergir’s grant?
No. The LogisVert guide excludes a second grant from Hydro-Québec or a government for the same equipment. With gas, the dual-energy offer is normally the higher one.
How long do I have to apply for LogisVert?
No later than 9 months after installation. Keep the detailed invoice and the system’s AHRI number.
Is R-410A banned?
We found no federal ban on these appliances in Canada. Manufacturers are moving to R-454B and R-32, which have a much lower global warming potential: 100 of our 125 add-on models already use them.
Who handles gas, oil or propane?
A partner holding the licence for this work. AirGreen installs the heat pump, the coil, the refrigerant lines, the electrical and the controls (RBQ 5645-9605-01: 15.8, 15.10 and 16).
What size heat pump do I need?
Often the same as your current air conditioner, but we confirm it at the visit: the home’s heat loss, the furnace blower airflow and the plenum width decide. Our add-ons range from 1.5 to 5 tons.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the city. Our Permits and bylaws page gives the rules city by city for Greater Montréal.
What about the air exchanger, is there a grant?
Rénoclimat pays $500 for a certified HRV or ERV, with an EnerGuide evaluation before and after the work. Neither LogisVert nor the dual-energy offer covers it.
Can my old outdoor unit stay?
Replacing only an outdoor unit or only a coil is not eligible for LogisVert. The add-on is installed with its outdoor unit and its coil, designed to work together (AHRI number).
