Fujitsu Airstage heat pump repair in Sainte-Thérèse

A service call for a Fujitsu Airstage heat pump that was no longer cooling efficiently

At AirGreen , we were recently called to Sainte-Thérèse , on the North Shore of Montreal , to diagnose and repair a Fujitsu Airstage wall-mounted heat pump that was showing obvious signs of declining performance. The client, the owner of a red brick duplex, had noticed for several days that the unit was no longer able to maintain a comfortable temperature, despite regular maintenance performed the previous year.

Diagnosis: loss of efficiency and dust accumulation

Upon arrival, our technician noticed that the Fujitsu Airstage outdoor unit had a noticeable buildup of dust and debris on the condenser fins . These obstructions prevent air from circulating properly, causing the compressor to overheat and drastically reducing the system's energy efficiency.

Using an anti-static brush and a low-pressure air jet , we carried out a complete cleaning of the fins, a simple but crucial action for the proper functioning of an HVAC system.

Step 1: Checking the pressures and the refrigeration circuit

Once the condenser was clean, we checked the pressures in the R-410A refrigerant circuit . The pressure gauge indicated a slight underpressure, a typical symptom of a micro-leak in a flare connection . We then injected a UV tracer to pinpoint the leak, before re -crimping the connection and recharging it with refrigerant according to Fujitsu specifications.

Step 2: Checking communication between indoor and outdoor units

Fujitsu Airstage systems use complex electronic communication between the motherboards of the units. We observed an intermittent error code “E0” related to a communication problem. Upon inspection, a poor contact at the external terminal block was identified. The signal cable had been slightly oxidized by moisture. Cleaning the terminal block and partially replacing the control cable resolved the problem permanently.

Step 3: Cleaning the internal turbine and checking the condensate drain

Inside, the wall-mounted fan impeller showed dust and pollen deposits that had accumulated over time, reducing airflow. We used a biodegradable HVAC cleaner to dislodge the dirt and disinfect the surface. We also unclogged the slightly clogged condensate drain to prevent future interior water leaks.

End result: restored performance and improved efficiency

After restarting, the Fujitsu Airstage heat pump returned to full cooling capacity. The supply air temperatures were back in line with the manufacturer's specifications (approximately 9°C in cooling mode at full load). The customer immediately noticed a difference in ambient comfort and in the speed at which the rooms cooled.

Our team took the time to explain to the owner the importance of seasonal preventative maintenance , particularly for outdoor units exposed to dust and pollen. Regular maintenance allows:

  • to extend the life of the compressor,

  • to prevent refrigerant leaks,

  • to maintain optimal energy consumption,

  • and prevent costly breakdowns.

AirGreen Maintenance Tips for Fujitsu Heat Pumps

We recommended some simple best practices to the client:

  1. Clean the interior filter every month during the air conditioning season.

  2. Keep the area around the outdoor unit clear within a radius of at least 50 cm.

  3. Schedule an annual professional maintenance , including checking the refrigerant and electrical connections.

  4. Avoid high-pressure cleaning , which can damage the condenser fins.
