02 · Your situation

Breakdown, replacement, new space: your plan, step by step.

Choose what’s happening to you: the steps, who does what, the documents to prepare and the key rule appear together.

Replacement: choose well, recover properly, finance wisely

We replace it with a more efficient system, recover the old gas by the rules and check Efficient Solutions assistance before you sign.

The steps
1Survey and calculationWe measure the actual load: the old system may have been poorly sized.
2System selectionSame type or better: ducted unit, cassettes, VRF, rooftop unit.
3Efficient Solutions assistanceRate G: apply after the work. Custom offer: approved before.
4Final offer, then installationOld gas recovered, never released, and the new system entered in the log.
The key rule: in Québec, equipment designed for an HCFC such as R-22 can no longer be installed or converted (s. 19), and no halocarbon may be released into the air (s. 5).
03 · Why air-condition

Why Is Air Conditioning Important for a Business?

An efficient air conditioning system isn’t just a luxury, it’s a necessity. In a commercial space, air quality and comfort directly affect productivity and customer satisfaction.

Cool employees work better

Summer heat tires people out, slows them down and drives up complaints. Properly sized air conditioning keeps a steady temperature, from the window corner to the meeting room.

Imagine

An office space where employees struggle against stifling summer heat.

04 · The building

Seven zones, seven answers: the same building, seen by a refrigeration technician.

Choose a zone here or on the drawing above. The system, the challenge, who does what and the rule to know appear together.

Offices: even comfort, from the window corner to the meeting room
Zone 3

Screens, full meeting rooms and a south-facing façade create hot zones next to cold ones. A zoned ducted unit or VRF gives each area its own set point.

What we install there
Watch out for: meeting rooms, whose load doubles when they fill up.
05 · The calculator

Your space in numbers: the heat to remove, line by line.

06 · The Hydro-Québec bill

A/C doesn’t just cost kilowatt-hours. It costs kilowatts.

Under Rate G, Hydro-Québec also bills your power demand: the highest 15-minute average of the month. The first 50 kW are not billed. The rest costs $22.071 per kW, every month.

150 h
Power demand for the month
51.7 kW in total, including 3.7 kW for A/CDark line: 50 kW not billed
Same space, four efficiencies: billed demand per month

Every kW avoided above 50 kW is worth $22.071 per month. A more efficient unit and staggered start-ups reduce the peak.

08 · Repair or replace

Is your system still worth repairing? And what does waiting cost?

Six questions to move the needle, then a calculation of what an old system costs you every summer compared with a new one.

Does the system run on R-22 (shown on the nameplate)?
Has it already leaked and been recharged more than once?
Are parts impossible to find, or do they take weeks to arrive?
Is it more than 15 years old?
Does your summer peak exceed 50 kW?

09 · Refrigerants

R-22, R-410A, R-32: where do the rules stand, and where does your unit stand?

Canada is phasing down HFCs in steps. The chart shows the share allowed each year; tap a date to see what it changes.

2026: 60% allowed

Source: SOR/2016-137, s. 65.06. R-410A is not banned: it becomes scarcer with each step.

2025 · Limit for chillers. Since January 1, 2025, a new chiller can’t use a refrigerant with a GWP above 750. No such limit applies to split, rooftop or VRF systems.

10 · Compliance

Six obligations under the Regulation respecting halocarbons, and the date of your next test.

15 · Frequently asked questions

The questions we get before every commercial project.

Short answers, backed by the regulations and rates in force. Search a word: R-22, leak, permit, Hydro-Québec, rebate.

15 questions
No. The federal regulation limits global warming potential (GWP) to 750 only for new chillers, since January 1, 2025. It sets no limit for split, rooftop or VRF systems. What’s changing is supply: allowed quantities of HFCs have been cut by 40% since 2024, and will be cut by 70% in 2029 and 85% in 2036. An existing R-410A unit can still be maintained.
