Chauffez vert is closed. Help to get off heating oil still exists.
The Québec government program ended on March 31, 2026, after helping more than 64,000 households. Today, Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert pays for part of the heat pump, and the oil heating regulation still applies. Here is what is left, what has changed and what it is worth for your home.

Installation
The regulation covers residential buildings of 600 m² and 3 storeys or less, used only as housing, connected to the main grid. It does not apply to propane, unless the unit replaces oil.

What oil-heated homeowners ask us
Does Chauffez vert still exist?
No. The Québec government assistance to convert a central oil or propane heating system has not been offered since March 31, 2026. No application received after that date is accepted.
My work is done, but I didn’t send the application in time.
The Chauffez vert application can no longer be accepted. However, the heat pump may still qualify for LogisVert if it is ENERGY STAR certified and was installed less than 9 months ago.
I already sent a Chauffez vert file. Who do I call?
The program’s customer service: 1 866 266-0008, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or renseignements.te@environnement.gouv.qc.ca.
Do I have to remove my oil furnace?
No. The regulation does not require removing a unit that works. It prohibits replacing it with an oil or fossil-fuel unit and limits repairs after 20 years. When it fails, conversion becomes the only route.
Can I switch from oil to propane or natural gas?
No, in a residential building of 600 m² and 3 storeys or less: since December 31, 2023, a fossil-fuel unit cannot replace an oil unit.
My heating runs on propane. What changes for me?
The regulation targets oil: your propane unit can be repaired or replaced. What is gone is the Chauffez vert help to convert it. A heat pump is still eligible for LogisVert.
How much does LogisVert pay for a conversion?
Heating capacity at -8 °C, divided by 1,000, multiplied by $50 or $120 (cold climate). A 3-ton MIDEA EVOX G3 central system delivers 33,000 BTU/h at -8 °C: 33 × $120 = $3,960. Maximum 100% of the cost before taxes.
Can I combine the federal OHPA and LogisVert?
The federal program allows combining with other programs. But the LogisVert guide excludes equipment or work for which another government body has already paid a grant. Get Hydro-Québec to confirm (1 833 396-1888) before counting on both for the same heat pump.
What is an electric thermal storage system?
A central electric heating system that stores heat to release it later. LogisVert pays $15,000 to replace a central system, $22,000 with a central heat pump, deducted from the invoice of a business authorized by Hydro-Québec.
How much will I save by getting off oil?
Natural Resources Canada estimates that a household switching from oil to a heat pump can save more than $1,300 and 2.8 tonnes of GHG per year (news release, June 29, 2026). Your result depends on the house, the insulation and the unit.
Is there such a thing as a free heat pump?
Hydro-Québec installs a cold-climate wall unit at no cost for modest-income households heated by baseboards and registered with Éconologis. It does not target oil-heated homes, and 2026-2027 registration is closed.
