Grant to switch to dual energy
Dual energy consists of using electricity as the main source of energy, in a proportion of about 70%, and natural gas as a backup source during periods of extreme cold when the demand for electricity is very high in Quebec. It is a solution for the future that allows everyone in Greater Montreal and Quebec to obtain all the energy needed to heat their home in the most budget friendly way possible, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to obtaining the right source of energy at the right time and at the best cost, you should take advantage of a range of subsidies offered by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Hydro-Québec and Énergir, allowing you to reduce the cost of purchase and installation of new ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances.
For example, here are some grants you may be eligible for.
- Replace a natural gas hot air central heating system with a new one and install an ENERGY STAR® certified central heat pump: up to $5,800 in subsidy.
- Add an ENERGY STAR® qualified central heat pump to the existing natural gas central heating system: up to $5,500 in subsidy.
In addition to the subsidies to which you may be entitled in Greater Montreal and throughout Quebec, dual energy electricity and natural gas allows you to take advantage of Hydro-Quebec's advantageous DT rate.
