Rénoclimat: what the program really pays for in 2026
Québec pays for part of your insulation, air sealing, door, window and ventilation work, on one condition: an advisor evaluates the home before and after. Heat pumps have not been part of it since May 2024: they go through Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert.

Who pays for your work?

To install or replace a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) or energy recovery ventilator (ERV). One per unit in a plex.
- Model listed in section 3 of the Home Ventilating Institute directory.
- Ducts inside the insulated part of the house; the attic should be avoided and must be approved with the advisor.
- Never on its own: without other work, the EnerGuide rating can drop and the grant with it.

Rénoclimat and LogisVert combine for different work. For the same job, only one program pays.
LogisVert requires no energy evaluation. Conditions: new ENERGY STAR heat pump, outdoor unit of at least 12,000 BTU/h, installed by an RBQ-licensed contractor, online application within 9 months. It can replace oil or propane heating.

Eight ways to lose the Rénoclimat grant
Starting before the first visit
Work started before the pre-retrofit energy evaluation is not eligible. Not even part of it.
Installing only an air exchanger
An HRV on its own can raise consumption and lower the EnerGuide rating. No improvement, no grant: combine it with other work.
Buying a heat pump counting on Rénoclimat
Since May 1, 2024, Rénoclimat pays nothing for a heat pump or geothermal. That is Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert.
Replacing only the glass or the sash
The $150 grant covers a complete ENERGY STAR door or window, installed in an existing rough opening.
Throwing away stickers and invoices
The advisor checks the ENERGY STAR labels and the detailed invoice (brand, model, NRCan number). No proof, no grant.
Insulating too little surface
At least 20% of the roof, walls or foundation, 80% of the rim joist and 14 m² of exposed floor.
Selling between the two visits
You must still own the home at the post-retrofit evaluation. A new buyer starts over with their own evaluation.
Claiming two grants for the same work
Attic insulation: Rénoclimat or LogisVert, not both. Hydro-Québec can claim back a grant already received elsewhere.

Every question we get about Rénoclimat
Does Rénoclimat still pay for a heat pump?
No. Since May 1, 2024, Rénoclimat no longer pays for an air-source heat pump or for geothermal. Hydro-Québec’s LogisVert funds it, with no energy evaluation: $120 per 1,000 BTU/h of heating at -8 °C for an ENERGY STAR cold-climate model ($50 for standard ENERGY STAR). Your current heating can be electric, oil or propane.
How much does the energy evaluation cost?
$150 plus taxes for the pre-retrofit visit, refunded if you receive a grant. The first post-retrofit visit is free. A subsequent evaluation costs $150 plus taxes, not refunded. Cancelling less than 24 hours ahead: $25. Visit impossible on site: $75.
How long do I have to do the work?
The program sets no deadline. The only limit is the end of the program: if it ended, those who already have their pre-retrofit evaluation would have six months to finish and get their post-retrofit evaluation.
When do I get the money?
By cheque, by mail, 8 to 10 weeks after the post-retrofit evaluation. The main owner must first give their social insurance number by phone to customer service, never by email.
Do I need a contractor to get the grant?
Rénoclimat does not require one: if the law allows it, you can do the work yourself. But Québec laws and codes require a certified contractor for some work. LogisVert always requires a company holding the proper RBQ licences.
Is my air exchanger eligible?
Yes if it is a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) or energy recovery ventilator (ERV) listed in section 3 of the Home Ventilating Institute directory: $500, new or replacement. The ducts must be in the insulated part of the house, and the unit must be part of a project with other work.
I live in a condo. Can I take part?
Not on your own. The evaluation covers the whole building and registration is in the name of the condo association, which receives the grant.
I just bought. Does the previous evaluation count?
No. Every owner starts with their own pre-retrofit evaluation. If you know your possession date, you can request the visit now with that date in mind.
Can I combine Rénoclimat and LogisVert?
Yes, for different work: Rénoclimat for insulation or the air exchanger, LogisVert for the heat pump. Never two grants for the same work, such as attic insulation.
What is the maximum?
$20,000 per house and $40,000 for a duplex, triplex or apartment building, accumulated over the life of the program.
Can I take part more than once?
Yes, for different work. The next visit serves both as the post-retrofit evaluation and as the new starting point: no new pre-retrofit evaluation.
Does the program have an end date?
No date has been announced. The program framework says it ends when the budget is fully committed or by decision, with or without notice. Better not to wait for the first visit.
What is the EnerGuide rating?
The home’s estimated annual energy consumption, in gigajoules per year, calculated by the HOT2000 simulation software under Natural Resources Canada’s EnerGuide rating system, with standard conditions (thermostat, hot water, number of occupants). The lower, the better: the Rénoclimat grant is paid only if it improves between the two visits.
Do I have to report the grant on my taxes?
The government issues an RL-27 slip to every recipient. An individual generally does not have to include the amount or attach the slip to their return. Check with Revenu Québec.
Can a tenant take part?
Not in Rénoclimat, which is for owners. With LogisVert, a tenant can apply for an induction range or a heat pump dryer.
