Before moving forward with the installation of your equipment, it's crucial to be aware of the rules and regulations in place in your borough. Here's a detailed summary of what you need to know:

  1. No Permit Required: Good news! You don't need a permit to install a heat pump or an air conditioning unit, whether it's permanent or removable.

  2. Installation Rules:

    • Prohibited Locations: It's not allowed to install your unit in the front yard or on a balcony facing the front of your building.
    • Permitted Locations: For other yards and balconies located on the side or at the back of the building, ensure that the unit is placed at a minimum distance of 3 meters from your property boundaries.

  3. Removable Air Conditioning Units: These units can be installed on the front of a building without the need for a permit.

  4. Exceptions:

    • If you're considering installing a heat pump or a permanent air conditioning unit on the roof, a permit is required.
    • Once the permit is granted, you have 12 months to commence the work.

  5. Fees for Permit Application Review:

    • $9.80 per $1,000 of work.
    • A minimum of $157 for a residential building.
    • $462 for other types of buildings.
