01 · Your basement

Is it the right size for your home?

It removes 100 pints a day according to the spec sheet. Choose your home's living area, then what you see in the basement.

Living area

What you see in the basement

It's the right size.

For a 2,200 to 2,800 sq ft home with condensation on the walls or windows, you need to remove about 102 pints a day (spec sheet conditions). It removes 100: enough for the house, with some reserve for humid weeks in July.

Calculation: pints a day needed for the living area and the basement's condition, at the spec sheet's test conditions. Our estimator measures the humidity on site before ordering.

E100The same unit as an AprilAire E100

In the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) certification database, the Johnson Controls S1-CVD100T01 is listed under the AprilAire E100 basic model. The figures on this page therefore come from AprilAire's spec sheet and installation guide for that model.

85 ptsIts rating at 73 °F

At the DOE test point, 73 °F and 60% humidity, the spec sheet gives 85 pints a day and 2.35 L/kWh, versus 100 pints and 2.6 L/kWh at 80 °F. The cooler the air, the less it removes.

280 cfmAirflow that holds up with ducts

The spec sheet gives 280 cfm with no ducts, 245 cfm at 0.2 in., 210 cfm at 0.4 in. and 175 cfm at 0.6 in. of static pressure, the maximum allowed. It handles longer duct runs than the CVD080T01.

6 inIt can ventilate too

Its built-in control can open a motorized damper (AprilAire 6506) that brings in fresh air through an insulated 6 in. duct. The damper and duct are added to the installation; our estimator includes them when needed.

55 dBAPublished sound level

55 dBA ducted per the spec sheet, versus 45 dBA for the CVD080T01 in the same cabinet. In a finished basement we place it in the mechanical room; a backdraft damper at the outlet stops air from flowing back when it is off.

2.6 LWhat it removes per kWh

Each kilowatt-hour removes 2.6 litres of water from the air. At Hydro-Québec's Rate D, that's about 4.3 ¢ per litre.

40–60%The humidity range to aim for

The range recommended by ASHRAE. Above 60%, a home becomes prone to mold and mildew.

10 °CIt works in a cold basement

Operating range of 10.0 to 40.0 °C per the spec sheet: it keeps working in spring and fall, when the basement is still cool and damp.

MERV 8The filter

Filter: MERV 8, washable, 13.5 × 12 in. It protects the coil and captures part of the particles in the basement air.

Built-inHumidity control is included

No wiring to an external control: plug it in and it manages the humidity on its own. A wall control is still possible when it's connected to ducts.

5 yrsThe parts warranty

Manufacturer's limited warranty on parts.
