The 5 in oval plastic collars include a balancing damper and airflow measurement ports, so the installer can measure and set airflows right at the unit, within the published 40 to 80 cfm range.

The only efficiency figure that matters for a Québec winter, and the one the Code uses. An efficiency quoted without its temperature means nothing; this one is measured at a test airflow of 44 cfm.
DamperIt defrosts without depressurizing the house
In cold weather, a motorized damper closes the outdoor air intake and recirculates indoor air through the core to thaw it. The house doesn't go into negative pressure during the cycle: no cold air drawn in through leaks, and none of the imbalance manufacturers warn about when there's a fireplace or a combustion appliance.

Winterguard™ Defrosting

A preset defrost sequence is activated when the outside temperature drops below 23° F (-5° C) and automatically adjusts according to operating conditions. The fan speed is also automatically adjusted to ensure a smooth and quiet transition between Ventilation & Defrost mode.
Ease of Service
The core, filters, fans, drain pan, and electrical panel can easily be accessed from the access panel. The core is easily removed with only a 10" (250 mm) clearance.

The 5" (125 mm) oval plastic duct connections are integrated with an air flow balancer and air flow measurement ports.
