Ducted does not mean a traditional central system

A central heat pump generally uses a larger air handler connected to a duct network distributed throughout much of the home. A compact ducted heat pump like the SENA-12HF-IDG works more like a mini-split heat pump with a concealed indoor unit.
It can supply one or more grilles through a small duct network.
This configuration may be worthwhile when we want to:
- serve two or three adjacent rooms;
- completely conceal the indoor unit;
- keep the walls clear;

During a relatively mild day, the system does not need to constantly produce 12,000 BTU. Inverter technology can reduce its output to better match demand.
This generally allows for longer, more consistent operating periods rather than a succession of starts and stops at full capacity.
In heating mode, the brochure indicates a nominal capacity of 12,500 BTU/h, with an operating range from 3,800 to 16,200 BTU/h.
20 SEER2, an EER2 of 12, and an HSPF2 of 10
The SENVILLE ducted system offers:

The supplied AirGreen data sheet indicates 11,800 BTU/h at -15 °C.
This value is higher than the 9,600 BTU figure given at -8 °C. The attached brochure does not provide these two low-temperature performance points, so it does not allow this progression to be confirmed directly.
For an accurate heat-loss calculation or to compare this model with a competitor, we therefore recommend verifying the exact capacities at -8 °C and -15 °C using AHRI match 215735301 or the performance table corresponding to this revision.
This detail is particularly important when determining whether the heat pump can handle a zone’s load on its own for much of the winter.
Operation down to -30 °C
The Senville brochure clearly indicates heating operation down to -22 °F, or -30 °C, and presents the unit as a cold-climate heat pump.
The AirGreen data sheet gives, at this limit:
- 6,400 BTU/h
- COP: 1.28
This makes it immediately possible to understand the difference between two commonly confused concepts.
The system can operate down to -30 °C, but it does not necessarily produce 12,000 BTU at -30 °C.
Its capacity listed in the AirGreen data is therefore approximately 6,400 BTU/h.
For a small, well-insulated area, this may remain useful. For an area with heat losses greater than this capacity, supplemental heating will be necessary during the most severe cold spells.
Why the ducted format can improve comfort in several small rooms
One of this product’s main advantages is not found solely in its energy performance.
Its ability to distribute air to multiple locations.
A 12,000 BTU wall-mounted head can easily heat a large open area, but its air has difficulty passing through several closed doors.
With a ducted unit, we can divide the airflow among several grilles.

An indoor unit rated between 32.5 and 36 dB in the brochure
The brochure indicates:

The AirGreen data provided, for its part, indicates 29,5 / 41 dB.
Since the two series do not correspond exactly and the brochure clearly presents the three H/M/L speeds, we recommend validating the final data for the exact matched system before publishing a single value.
In practice, the perceived noise from a ducted system also depends heavily on the ductwork and grilles.
A grille that is too small can create more aerodynamic noise than the unit itself.
Outdoor sound level: the brochure indicates 56 dB
Another discrepancy should be clearly noted.
The AirGreen sheet provided lists a value of “Sound (Ext) 575.0”, while the Senville documentation indicates 56 dB for the outdoor unit.
For the technical presentation of this product, the value of 56 dB is the one shown in the attached brochure. The website data should therefore be verified before final publication.
