Installation of Midea wall-mounted heat pumps on a flat roof in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie

Professional installation to maximize performance and durability in urban environments

At AirGreen , we recently installed two Midea wall-mounted heat pumps on the flat roof of a residential building in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie , an iconic Montreal neighborhood. This project perfectly illustrates our expertise in HVAC installation adapted to the constraints of urban buildings , including flat roofs, restricted access and vibration management.

Project background

The owner wanted to replace an old, inefficient air conditioning system with a modern, energy-efficient and quiet solution . The goal was to air condition two separate dwellings while reducing electricity consumption and ensuring a durable rooftop installation , exposed to Montreal's climatic variations.

Our technicians therefore proposed the installation of two Midea outdoor units of the wall-mounted heat pump type , each dedicated to a separate dwelling.

Step 1 – Site Survey and Planning

Before any work began, our team conducted a structural analysis of the roof to ensure that the additional load of the appliances could be safely supported. We also considered:

  • The refrigerant discharge distance between the indoor and outdoor units.

  • The direction of the air flow to avoid any recirculation.

  • Maintenance and accessibility standards required by the Quebec Building Code.

A detailed installation plan was validated with the customer, including the routing of the refrigeration pipes , the passage of the electrical cables and the integration of anti-vibration supports .

Step 2 – Mechanical and Structural Installation

The two Midea condensers were installed on galvanized supports mounted on treated wooden soles and rubber pads , ensuring perfect stability on the gravel of the flat roof.
This approach allows us to:

  • Avoid direct contact with the roof waterproofing membrane ,

  • Reduce the transmission of vibrations to structures,

  • Facilitate seasonal maintenance operations .

Each unit has been carefully connected with full thermal insulation to protect the pipes from temperature fluctuations and UV rays.

Step 3 – Electrical Connection and Performance Test

Our technicians then carried out the independent electrical connection of each heat pump , with dedicated circuit breakers and waterproof junction boxes.
The following checks were carried out:

  • Electrical continuity and grounding test.

  • Leak testing of the refrigeration circuit by pressurizing with nitrogen .

  • 500 micron vacuum draw before releasing R-410A refrigerant.

Once the tests were successful, both systems were started up and calibrated. The readings showed a stable blowing temperature and balanced pressure , confirming optimal performance.

Step 4 – Customer Optimization and Training

To ensure optimal use, we configured the automatic defrost settings , adjusted the ventilation modes and explained the best maintenance practices to the customer:

  • Regular cleaning of internal filters.

  • Annual check of drains and refrigeration connections.

  • Semi-annual inspection of the base and exterior wiring.

The customer particularly appreciated the quiet sound of the new Midea units, as well as the significant reduction in his energy bill from the first weeks of use.

Final result: a durable, efficient and aesthetic installation

This dual installation of Midea heat pumps in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie demonstrates AirGreen 's ability to deliver tailor-made projects combining energy performance, safety and sustainability.
By installing these units on the roof, we have optimized the living space, improved the system's ventilation and ensured simple and safe maintenance.

Our installations are always carried out according to CSA and RBQ standards, ensuring complete peace of mind for our residential and commercial customers.
