Accurate diagnosis for a Fujitsu heat pump experiencing performance loss
At AirGreen , we were recently called to Sainte-Dorothée, Laval , regarding a problem with a Fujitsu Halcyon series wall-mounted heat pump. The customer reported that their unit, which had been installed for several years, was no longer able to maintain a stable temperature in the home. The heat pump seemed to operate intermittently, without producing effective hot or cold air.
Initial inspection and report
Upon arrival, our technician performed a complete visual inspection of the outdoor condenser . The unit, well maintained but exposed to the elements, was resting on aging wooden supports . These showed signs of wear and sagging, which compromised the stability and proper drainage of the condenser .
An inspection of the electrical connections and refrigeration lines revealed:
-
A buildup of debris around the condenser fins.
-
Slight oxidation on the copper fittings.
-
Irregular condensate flow , a sign of insufficient drainage slope.
Step 1 – Cleaning and straightening the installation
Before any performance measurements, our priority was to secure the base of the device . We replaced the damaged boards with moisture-resistant polymer supports , ensuring better stability and increased durability.
Then, a thorough cleaning of the condenser was carried out:
-
Degreasing the fins with a biodegradable product.
-
Low pressure rinsing to avoid distortion.
-
Cleaning the condensate tray and checking the drainage pipe.
Step 2 – Refrigeration performance diagnosis
Once the base was re-leveled, we tested the pressure of the R-410A refrigerant . The values were slightly lower than Fujitsu standards, indicating a potential microleak .
Using an electronic detector, we located the leak on the flare fitting on the low pressure side . After tightening and replacing the gasket, a nitrogen test confirmed the absence of residual leakage.
Step 3 – System Recharge and Calibration
We then carried out a controlled recharge of the refrigerant gas , followed by a superheating and subcooling test to validate the correct balance of the circuit.
The Fujitsu heat pump found:
-
A blowing temperature of +9°C in heating mode .
-
Stable pressure in air conditioning mode.
-
Smooth and quiet operation.
Step 4 – Preventive Maintenance and Recommendations
Before leaving the premises, we advised the client to:
-
Clean the internal filters every two months.
-
Check the drain flow before each season.
-
Schedule annual maintenance to prevent microleaks and extend compressor life.
We also installed anti-vibration mounts under the condenser to reduce noise and optimize stability on uneven ground.
Final result: comfort restored to Sainte-Dorothée
By the end of our repair, the Fujitsu heat pump was operating at full efficiency. The customer immediately noticed improved indoor comfort and reduced outdoor noise. With this repair, the unit is ready to provide several more seasons of optimal performance while consuming less energy.
At AirGreen , every service call is handled with rigor and attention to detail. Our goal is always the same: to ensure the performance, reliability, and lasting comfort of our customers' HVAC systems, whether in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore, or the South Shore.
