Repair of a Haxxair wall-mounted heat pump in La Prairie

An accurate diagnosis for restored performance

At AirGreen , we were recently called about a performance issue with a Haxxair wall-mounted heat pump in an apartment in La Prairie , on Montreal's South Shore. The customer noticed that their system was running continuously, but the indoor temperature wasn't dropping enough, even after several hours of use.

The outdoor unit was securely installed on a galvanized support , indicating a concern for careful installation, but a sign of light frost on the pipes quickly alerted us: something was disrupting the refrigeration cycle.

Technical inspection and initial assessment

Our technicians began with a pressure test of the refrigeration circuit and a compressor check . The Haxxair unit, although compact and reliable, showed lower than normal suction pressure , suggesting a slow refrigerant leak.

Further checks confirmed:

  • No electrical or control board issues.

  • The outdoor fan was working properly.

  • The capillary (small tube regulating the refrigerant flow) was partially blocked.

These two factors combined explained the system's lack of power and the difficulty in maintaining the target temperature.

Complete repair and return to service

Once the diagnosis was established, we undertook a complete repair of the circuit :

  1. Replacement of the capillary with a new one, compatible with the Haxxair Energy+ series.

  2. Nitrogen cleaning of the circuit to remove all traces of moisture and debris.

  3. Leak tested under nitrogen at 300 psi to ensure leak tightness.

  4. Recharge R410A refrigerant according to manufacturer's specifications.

After powering up and calibrating the air conditioning mode, we performed a blower temperature test . The result: 7.6°C at the air outlet — optimal performance that confirms the complete return to normal.

Result: comfort, reliability and energy savings

Within minutes of restarting, the customer noticed a rapid drop in indoor temperature and quieter operation. This service restored the Haxxair heat pump to its original energy efficiency and performance, reducing power consumption and extending the compressor's lifespan.

At AirGreen, we emphasize one essential point: a gradual decline in performance is never trivial . Often, it signals a leak or a blockage, two problems that can be resolved quickly if detected early.

AirGreen Maintenance Tips for Wall-Mounted Heat Pump Owners

To avoid this type of breakdown, we recommend:

  • Annual preventative maintenance including coil cleaning, pressure testing and seal inspection.

  • Regular dusting of the internal filters (ideally every month during periods of heavy use).

  • Visual inspection of exterior pipes and defrosting during winter.

These simple actions help preserve seasonal performance and avoid major breakdowns.
