A tailor-made mission: how AirGreen successfully adapted an HVAC heating solution to a uniquely designed commercial building
In the world of commercial heating, every project tells a new story, and some require an approach as ingenious as it is demanding. At AirGreen, we’re often called in to work in spaces that fall outside the usual standards. That’s exactly what happened on a recent project in a uniquely shaped commercial building located in Longueuil, on the South Shore of Montreal. The space had an irregular layout, high ceilings, open partitions, and a commercial activity that required consistent thermal comfort — a set of challenges that our team turned into an opportunity to showcase our expertise in HVAC heating.
An atypical commercial space: understanding the site’s constraints
The building in question was used as an industrial showroom with numerous display windows, an open-concept workspace, and mezzanines that are notoriously difficult to heat evenly. The insulation was partial, with some sections renovated and others left in raw condition — which made maintaining consistent thermal comfort a major issue.
So, we performed a full energy assessment, calculated heat loss, measured the space’s volume, and factored in the high foot traffic. The goal: to provide a smart central heating solution that delivered energy performance, long-term reliability, and adaptability to the building’s unique layout.
Strategic choice: the Bosch BOVA 5-Ton central heat pump with IDS Premium technology
To meet this challenge, we chose to install a Bosch BOVA 5-Ton central heat pump featuring the IDS Premium system with R-454B refrigerant, known for its lower environmental impact and superior energy efficiency (SEER 20 / HSPF 10).
Why this model?
-
60,000 BTU capacity, perfectly suited to large, irregular volumes
-
Variable speed inverter technology, which automatically adjusts output to real-time heating needs
-
R-454B refrigerant, more eco-friendly than R-410A and compliant with Quebec’s environmental standards
-
Smart connectivity, with a programmable Wi-Fi thermostat for precise, remote control
Installation challenges: adapting to a complex existing structure
The installation required meticulous planning, as the building’s structure didn’t allow for straightforward duct routing. We had to navigate several obstacles:
-
Exposed beam ceilings: we integrated ducts into custom technical drop ceilings while preserving the space’s aesthetics
-
Non-insulated glass areas: air curtains were combined with strategically placed vents to create a thermal barrier effect
-
Restricted access to attic sections: our team carried out work overnight to avoid interrupting the commercial operations
The result: controlled thermal comfort and long-term energy savings
After just two days of installation, the Bosch central heat pump was up and running. The building owner immediately noticed even temperature control across all areas, including the hardest-to-reach corners of the mezzanine. Thanks to the inverter technology, the temperature remains stable all day long without unnecessary energy consumption.
We also set up an annual preventative maintenance plan, which will extend the equipment’s lifespan and maintain peak performance through all seasons.
Grant eligibility and return on investment
This project qualified for a $2,240 LogisVert grant from Hydro-Québec, applicable to high-efficiency central heat pumps. We assisted the client throughout the application process, speeding up the reimbursement timeline.
Combined with an average 35% reduction in heating bills, the return on investment is estimated at under four years — an excellent figure for a commercial space.
What this installation says about the AirGreen approach

A few tips for businesses with uniquely designed commercial spaces
1. Get a professional HVAC evaluation of your space
An on-site energy assessment allows you to precisely size your future system and avoid costly mistakes.
2. Prioritize variable speed systems
Inverter central heat pumps like the Bosch BOVA IDS Premium guarantee optimal comfort, even in hard-to-heat zones.
3. Schedule regular maintenance
An HVAC maintenance plan ensures your system’s longevity and helps you avoid expensive breakdowns during peak season.
4. Ask about available grants
Our advisors are trained to help you apply for government incentives available in Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, on the North Shore and South Shore.
