Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps: What You Need to Know

• Supplemental or Modular Air Conditioning Units:

  • These devices are allowed in the front, side, and rear yards of your property.
  • They must be positioned at a minimum distance of 1.2 m (or 4 feet) from the boundaries of your property.
  • If installed on the roof of your main building, they must be invisible from the street or aesthetically integrated into the building.
  • These devices must comply with the noise standards in effect, in accordance with the noise regulation of the City of Repentigny.

• Central Heat Pump System and Compressors (for residential use):

  • These systems are only permitted in the side and rear yards.
  • They must be installed at least 2 m (6 feet 7 inches) from the property boundaries.
  • Compressors must also comply with the noise standards stipulated in the noise regulation.

Please Note:

• You do not need a permit to install these devices.
• You can obtain more details about the standards to comply with directly at the permit counter of the City.
